Actually, Pearl Jam did a remake of the song. I would think you would have to give the original artist instead, since it was very popular during its time.

edit: I don't know the original artist, by the way, but I am going to look it up eventually, in case we decide to go with it.

Okay, the song is "Last Kiss" and it's by J. Frank Wilson and the Cavaliers, later redone by Pearl Jam.

I'll post lyrics later tonight.

edit: Moose was right, but he didn't name the song, so he doesn't win.

This is one of my favorite songs, so I'll save you the trouble!

Artist J. Frank Wilson
Album Unknown
Song Last Kiss

[Chorus]
Oh where oh where can my baby be
The Lord took her away from me
She's gone to heaven soI got to be good
So I can see my baby when I leave this world

We were out on a date in my daddy's car
We hadn't driven very far
There in the road straight up ahead
A car was stalled the engine was dead
I couldn't stop so I swerved to the right
I'll never forget the sound that night
The screaming tires the busting glass
The painful scream that I heard last

[Chorus]

WHen I woke up the rain was pouring down
There were people standing all around
Somethign warm flowing through my eyes
But somehow I found my baby that night
I lifted her head she looked at me and said
Hold me darling just a little while
I held her close I kissed her our last kiss
I found the love that I knew i have missed
Well now she's gone even though I hold her tight
I lost my love my life that night

[Chorus]

Woh (x4)
Ohh (x4)

Oh well, it would have been wrong not to post all of the lyrics to that masterpiece, so it needed to be done.

**wonders if that excuse will convince anyone**

It convinced me! And the lyrics were definitely worth mentioning, especially for the younger crowd, many of whom were probably not aware that Pearl Jam was redoing it.

Okay, lyrics:
I know a man ain't supposed to cry
But these tears I can't hold inside
Losin' you would end my life you see
'Cause you mean that much to me
