Aaahhh... China, the homeland of my grandfather. I have no idea what to think of it and I certainly do not evenb want to stay there (for the moment).

To Answer MagiK's question:

Taiwan is a sovereign of China and they see fit that it should be governed by the China Communist Party. So goes all the threating stuff like, "Hey, if you come back to old mama, I will whack you!". And of course since Taiwan wanted to gain independace of their own, this is really pissing the Communist Chinese Government real nice.

You do mean, "Hey, if you don't come back to old mama, I will whack you!"

I'd like to see Taiwan and China reunite... peacefully. The mainland is currently being very inflexible in her policies towards Taiwan, though.

It's incidentally a bit sad how so many Westerners, when they encounter the word 'China', can only think of current geopolitical, economic and human rights issues, and nothing of her history and culture. Well, I hope this is only a subjective impression.

I don't ONLY think of the current issues They are just high on the list for me because of my background. I did try to get "into" Chinese history and culture, but it wasn't my bag o' tea, Im more interested and fascinated by the western civilizations.

Guess Im just biased

Hey K.T. I know you are probably sleeping right now, but when you wake, check out this link.

Western peoples have a hard time understanding the social pressures that cause this kind of stuff. We just aren't brought up to see children as being disposable.....well most of us any way.

Hey, I never named you specifically, you yourself owned up!

And yes, you are biased indeed. But what the heck, who isn't? To be human at all, you'll just have to be biased in some way.

Which leaves a few who think otherwise.

No nation in the world can lay any claim to being a nation of saints. The Chinese have their 'baby-boy preference' problem, while Americans are endlessly besieged with teenagers walking into schools with firearms and firing at everyone. We all have our problems.

Right?

No prob K.T. I didn't actually think you were pointing ONLY at me with the comment because it is true about a lot of people and some times even me But I just wanted to let ya know that I don't just dwell on the here and now I do look to the past and the future. Peace! (sorry just watched Independance Day )
