Drugs will never fix your problem! ..and will probably cause others.

I'm thinking he meant painkillers, Variol.

Yes, I know exactly what he meant. They're drugs non-the-less.

Some are addictive, others tend not to be affective after a time and then you have to go to something stronger...

The only ones who don't feel the pain are the drug company's: quite the opposite actually.

Evening, all. Had some fun today... playing drums at church this morning, we had more screw-ups than I ever remember. From half of us finishing a song early (and the other half playing, without vocals, looking like rookies) to not being able to start one song because we couldn't get the tempo going, I was *REALLY* glad when the second service was over!

We decided to be productive around the house today, and I drew the job of painting the upstairs bathroom. Not too big, so not much of a challenging job... shouldn't take more than a couple of hours, at most, to prep it and paint it.

Until, that is, I discovered that the new shower head I put on... oh... two or three years ago has been leaking nicely ever since The wallboard under the shower head was rotted out and needs replacing.

Fortunately, I have a leftover sheet of wallboard, so I was able to cut the damaged part out and put in a new piece. I have some clips left over from another job that let me hook two pieces of wallboard together without having a stud behind them, and they were useful! Only thing I didn't have was drywall mud, but if you put enough spackle on something, it'll hold rather nicely Letting it dry tonight, then tomorrow I'll put some more on, sand it, slap some Killz on (since it's a bathroom), and then eventually put on the new paint.

Oh, and this all needs to be done by Wednesday, 'cause my in-laws are coming on Thursday and that's the bathroom they use Hmmm... where's that ticking time-bomb smiley

Life's good, fer sher...

Beautiful day today, 70 degrees first thing this morning with a high of around 85 in the late afternoon. Made directing traffic a really wonderful thing. We just got the results from our pledge drive and as announced during services $10.7 million has been pledged over the next three years for our new auditorium and childrens facilities. Which I have to say IMHO is pretty awesome given the circumstances.

Just curious Bungleau, how much rehersal time do you guys get in?

Finished out the day with a nice slow cooked beef pot-roast with potatoes, carrots, gravy and buttermilk biscuits.

For the most part an uneventful day. But still good.

We try to practice for a couple of hours the week before we play. Last week, though, I was in an airplane on the way to San Francisco that night, so I missed it.

That brought me to the usual practice, which is a final run-through of songs about an hour before the first service. Since all the songs were ones we've done before, it shouldn't have been a problem.

This morning, however, our keyboard player wanted me to hear a different version of a song we'd played before, saying it was livelier and what they'd practiced on Monday. It was livelier, for sure... and if it weren't for two completely different and somewhat syncopated rhythms, I think I could have done it just like the recording. I made it the first service, but not the second...

Sounds like a great meal to finish the day! And an impressive pledge drive, I must say...

That's really strange b',
Mostly because our worship team stumbled through the entire service as well. They started into songs late, didn't end in the right place etc.

The only reason I could see is that we did not have our regular pianist/organist. He is excellent, but maybe he does things slightly differently.
The potluck lunch to welcome our new pastor went much better.

The new projector we mounted on the ceiling is excellent: so much sharper!

The weekend was the same for me as well. Building shelves for the garage, mounting the hardware on the wall for the shelves, installed new shelves and racks in the front hall closet, cut, sanded and stained the new hand-rails for the lower stairs...

...and here we are on Monday..

One person can make a big difference. Several years ago, the church organist filled in on keyboards for us. Not a big deal... except she wasn't used to playing with a group! Instead of counting out loud or being counted, she just did her own mental count and started, leaving the rest of us high and dry We got through that without too much difficulty, fortunately.

I learned long ago that when playing with a group, what you play doesn't matter so much as what you *don't* play. Not playing is bad, but the audience may not know that you messed up. Continuing to play when everyone else has stopped... that's *VERY* noticeable

Ah, well... four weeks until we play again. The teen band is playing in our place in two weeks. Every so often, they get the opportunity to offend some of the congregation with newer music and styles that may not be... shall we say... appreciated

Sounds like you beat me in the productivity department there You can keep the championship trophy...

Ah, potlucks... sure you're not Lutheran over there behind the scenes? Lutherans having potlucks is like tv programs having commercials... any excuse is a good excuse to have one

Strange, never heard that before, spent the first 5 years of my life going to a lutheran church. I always though it was the baptists that were big on potlucks almost always featuring some form of fried chicken. (ahh, stereotypes, always good for a laugh)

But yeah, as Bungleau said, one person, new or inexperienced can make a huge difference in musical performance, especially if they're responsible for keeping rhythm. If your drummer is too fast or too slow it can throw everyone off big time.
