I could tell you the actual way of stopping them but that'll take too long. Instead I suggest you get a jar of mustard, a floppy disk and a sponge, you put them in a blender, I must emphasise the importance of using an actual aquatic sponge and not the ones you find in supermarkets. After you have put them in the blender run round your home five times and yell at the top of your voice

"You won't have another lava-lamp you foul fiends from the abyss!" and then proceed to curl up in a ball within a dustbin.
