Wow.. just saw those pictures of them dead. They really got them.... (Grewsome as they are) I'm happy they got nailed.
Rejoicing over dead burned bodies...I'm sorry to say that you sound just like them. That's exactly what they used to do, and that's exactly what we should avoid doing.

Great, and then what ?

And what is this idea of this stupid card game...why did they have to turn that so serious thing into a game...

Cya, got to throw up my breakfast, I just saw the pictures myself.

I think it will do a world of good. But you are more than welcome to give up if you like.

I never give up.

You think they deserve a fair trial, i don't. That's all.
I saw interviews with the good citizens of Baghdad. They wish to see the bodies dragged through the streets. Does that disturb you? Want to go and chastize them for being uncivilized?

As for the card game, they weren't trivilizing the situation, they just wanted it to stay on everyones mind, even when they were playing cards, though in that part of the world, it should have probably been dominos.

I think that the victims and their families deserved the closure that a fair and open trial would have brought. I think that the people of Iraq had the right to prosecute and sentence the people that had brutalised them for so many years and that this right was taken away from them.

Attalus,
The death penalty has always been the sentence for murderers in Iraq - and one thing I can assure you of is that any middle-eastern cell would make the average Western cell look like a stay in a luxury hotel. Furthermore, should the new government introduce a form of Shariah law, the application of the death sentence could be more brutal and slow (for example stoning to death) than anything that the US military could dream up!

For reasons of domestic political gain:
the evil duo won quick and painless deaths,
Bush won domestic propaganda points,
- while the victims families and an entire nation ended up being the losers, once more. Some victory.

LOL, Skunk, good point. That would be great. Quarter and draw them medieval/Braveheart style while pausing once every minute to check and see if they want to "repent" so you will end it more quickly. "FREEDOM!!" [img]graemlins/braveheart.gif[/img]

As for the deck of cards, it was not making anything a "game." Soldiers will play cards to pass the time. US soldiers will, anyways -- always. Putting the pictures on the cards was a great mnemonich/memory tool for the soldiers. That's all.

Look, I'm not in the streets or nothing, I'm just glad to see them gone. As I said, it would have been ideal to have a capture and a trial, but the death of evil* is at least some great victory.

*To anyone who wants to debate what I mean by "evil" and turn this into a "moral issue" I point out that both men were rapists/muderers/torturers of the worst kind, and I will not even entertain a discussion on the "nature of evil" in this instance. In short, if this is your comment, know ahead of time my reply is you can kiss my ass. Thanks. Oh, wait, what are those smartass end notes?

TIA
HAND
yep, that's it.

Just saw on the tube new videos of the pair, all dolled up and shaven to appear more like their photos. In addition, some sort of putty was used to reconstruct missing peices of their face.

I thought they looked kind plastic at first glance in the new video, but then my cable went out.

No, I don't think they should have been given a fair trial. I don't even believe that such a thing as a 'fair trial' exists.

I'll put my point into one paragraph (Yes, something I should've done right from the start):

Killing is fine, so long as it is done to constructive purpose. Celebrating is fine, so long as it emphasizes constructive gains. When you say 'I'm glad they're dead, good riddance', you consciously associate the satisfaction of victory with negative consequences (ie:death). When you say: 'two enemy ring-leaders are dead. Now people shall be slightly more free to make their own way', you associate victory with positive gains.

Now, whether or not 'average' Iraqis are actually going to be any better off without the Hussein dynasty governing them is a matter I (and everyone else on this forum) am woefully undeducated to talk about. But, accentuating the positive is a good habit to get into, especially when killing your own species is involved...

I'm adding this to my list of favorite quotes.
