Strongbow is not one of my favorites, but Woodpecker seems the pick over here in the U.S. The local brews from small pubs in England are the ones to beat though. YUUUUUMMMM

Have to admit Epona, that it was STRONGBOW that Donut and I were drinking . When I was over there last month, I asked in a pub in Oxford for a pint of cider - the landlord said "You'll get Scrumpy, or now't about here me lad". I drank up, but it didin't taste any different to me (slurp, yum).

Maaaate. I reckon the English Strongbow is so much better than the Aussie Strongbow. What do you reckon?

Glad I'm get the chance to tell people about myself - I feel so anonymous on here sometimes

I was born in London, England on March 4th, 1984 to dutch and italian parents. At 7 I moved to the Netherlands, where I now currently live. I'm now in my last year of high school, and hoping to study in the States next year. My hobbies include soccer, basketball, running and the IW. As for my love life.... well, it's rather an interesting story actually, and so I think it's worth telling. One day, two years ago, I was bored and decided to try this 'new' thing called chatting on the internet. Within five minutes I met this fantastic girl, and it clicked between us right away. We started talking every day after that. This summer, we decided to meet for the first time. I live in the Netherlands and she lives in the US, so you can imagine how excited we were. We met and things went brilliantly - we fell in love, and the rest, as they say, is history. That's why I'm very keen on studying over there next year, and living with her (Kathleen) afterwards. So right now I'm just killing time and applying to lots of universities in the States, hoping one of them will take me, so I can get on with my life together with the girl I love. How romantic, eh?

So that's me summed up - I'm looking forward to hearing all of your life stories too

Drinking Strongbow is like drinking battery acid. YUK. But a decent scrumpy on the other hand...
If you can see through it, there's something wrong with it. And it's very potent stuff - 1 pint scrumpy = 3 pints Strongbow.

Yorick - are you trying to say that Aussie Strongbow is worse?

Hmmmmm. Epona, you may be talking about the ocean to ones that have only been in a bath. I... like English Strongbow. I thought I'd had scrumpy, but if it's that much better perhaps I'm mistaken.

Ocean and bath eh I like that phrase. Must remember to use it myself sometime.

I think I can tell a story here about an experience I had with scrumpy - after all, this is a 'tell us something about yourself' thread.

The year - 1991. The place - a village near Poole, in Dorset (heart of scrumpyland). I was in Dorset for my trades union conference - there is a big conference centre in Bournemouth. Myself and a few other delegates went for a drive, as we had turned up a day early just so that we could do some socialising (otherwise known as 'going on the piss'). We found this tiny little pub in a village, and got ourselves some scrumpy. I had 3 pints, while sitting down. I felt fine. I stood up...
Everything started to swim and I realised I couldn't see straight. We went back out to the car (the driver was of course responsible and sober), and started to drive back to Bournemouth.

Anyway, after 3 pints of liquid, I started to feel the 'call of nature', which was calling to be answered pretty damn sharpish. I wasn't the only one, and we badgered the driver into agreeing to a 'comfort stop' somewhere. Only problem was, we were on a dual-carriageway with no service stations for miles.

We spotted the back garden of a hotel backing onto the road, with a fence that looked easy enough to jump over - about 4 foot high. The driver obligingly pulled over to the hard shoulder (illegally), and we 3 drinkers uncrossed our legs, and piled out of the car, leaping in a mad scramble over the fence into the hotel garden, then legged it into the hotel bar to use the facilities.

Feeling much relieved, we headed back out to the hotel garden to climb back over the fence - and realised that there was a 7 foot drop on the hotel side of the fence!!! The driver was panicking, and it was like a drunken army assault course with the 3 pissheads (myself included) pushing and pulling each other over the fence! We made it in the end, and the driver didn't get a ticket for stopping illegally either....
