You'll need GP to enter battle arena. Use the strongest char you have, probably Cloud.

Materia? those good summons are nice to have like knight of the round, bahamut etc. Magic materia like Ultima. Enemy skill materia with big guard learnt. Time, Counter attack , Mime , 4x Cut, Slash All etc is nice to have.

However, the most important thing to have is a ribbon. Without the ribbon the battle arena will be a frustrating fight.

Oh well, not got any of thoes materia at the mo, so I think I'll be putting that battle arena off for a while.
Any idea where I can learn the skill big guard and get some of those others from that 4x cut and slash all sounds good!!

Learn Big Guard from the Beach Slugs near Costa Del Sol. You'll need to manipulate them first.

the 4x cut is actually double cut materia, can be found in sunken gelnika. I think disk 2 or disk 3.

slash all can be found in ancient forest.

Dammit - all this talk of FFVII made me want to play it again, but unfortunately, no matter how much I tweak/patch, my XP machine with a Ti4200 just does not seem to want to let it run from the start

Every time I try to start a new game, all I get is a blank screen. I've even been able to get a couple of save games and load them successfully, but I really want to start from the beginning again.

Grrrrrrrrr.

Have you the FFVII XP patch?? Look it up at download.com ...

And from my experience... you only need to press a button for the start-up screen to show up.

Just been through the GoldenSaucer for the first time, couldn't really do much there, bit of a let down, and what the hell is Cat Sisth?? A very odd thing indeed. In Coral prison now, looking forward to trying that manipulate materia, does it work on all monsters??
Oh and what is a good way to get GP? bet on a couple of the races but the chochs I picked came in either 2nd third or last...how do you pick the winners??

Been there, done that. I suspect it may be something to do with video codecs that stop the intro movie playing. I have vague memories of fiddling around with them when the game first came out to deal with probs in that area.

I can get to the New Game/Continue screen by pressing the "Enter" key, but if I choose the New Game option, I just get a blank screen.

As far as I can see, the only way around this would be to get a save gave from the very first save point in the game and take it from there.

The save files are only 64k and should be easy to e-mail as an attachment. Anyone care to oblige??

FF7 is one game I will never tire of. I have played iut through about a dozen times and will be starting it again soon. Have fun and enjoy it. It is one of the Best games ever produced.
