Ghar Dien

The archer lowered his bow, and disappeared among the trees again.

"These are not my lackeys. They work with one known as Terak. We have set out to seek out a cult, where the item the Dreamweaver needs can be found. It is about seven hours walking away from here." Ghar Dien rapidly described the situation to Jonal, telling him of the happenings of the last few days and among it all his meeting with Zevin.

"Now tell me," - he nearly said friend, but stopped short. Jonal was a temporary ally, not a friend. "What has happened with you since we got seperated?"

Zevin 52/52 15/90

Zevin looked quizzically at the newcomer who seemed a bit perturbed, he then shrugged, and went looking for Terak, humming a tuneless little dittie he'd invented on the spot.

Jonal Turamarth 78/78 56/56

Jonal was already fed up with this guy.

"Look, I'm not one for storytelling so I'll give you the quick version. We thought you guys were dead but we had a job to do anyway, so the priest led us onward until he had to depart from us. The bird-brained one squawked loud enough to get us discovered by that cult that you are talking about, and we had to fight our way out of it. The dwarf got himself killed and the rest of us were injured, but we escaped. Come to find out, one of them priests of the Dreamweaver was a traitor from the start and sent a team after us. We attacked them while they slept, but we were still defeated in numbers. I took a knife to the back, blacked out, and woke up alone. I guess the others were dragged off by the cult. I found the bull guy's bag that had been left behind and it contained a healing potion, so I drank it. Then I started wandering about looking for my team. That's how I found you. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm tired and would like to rest. I've been walking all day."

Ghar Dien

"To tell you the truth, we had actually been preparing to rest ourselves, when the scout heard your approach."

Ghar pondered the deaths of his former comrades. He did not feel any emotional loss about them. After all they had been pulled into this all unwillingly. As had he and Jonal.

Ghar Dien led Jonal to the camp set up by Terak and his men. All in all there were 10 men in the encampment, including Ghar Dien, and Zevin. Zevin, the gnome illusionist, as Ghar had told Jonal. The other name Shaka had crossed off on the paper.

As the men settled down to sleep, one lookout was posted, the young archer who had pointed his bow previously at Jonal. All the others went to sleep.

OOC: feel free to make your move Larry. Just one thing. Don't kill Ghar in his sleep. I promised Bozos that he wouldn't go down without a fight.

Jonal did not go to sleep that night. He had a job to do and this was the time to do it. Nobody suspected anything of him. He had counted 10 men all together. The two targets and their 8 comrades. Terak was the leader of the 8. His two targets were probably the only magic-using folk. He had to be careful around them.

First things first. Take out the only guy that's awake and has a bow. Jonal was skilled in many thievery traits as well as assasinations. He could not remember where he'd got all the training however. His memory had been wiped by a stupid cleric.

Jonal slid the dagger from his belt as he crept along out of his resting place and located the lookout. He had his sword ready beside him in the event that this throw went bad. He steadied himself, breathed in, breathed out...pinched the end of the dagger tip, and threw. The blade twirled soundlessly towards its mark, cutting straight through the throat of the man as it landed home, cutting off his breathing and his blood supply to the brain. There was no sound except the quiet thud of a body falling into the soft earth. Jonal stood very still and listened for any sounds that might mean that somebody wanted to find the source of that thud. None came. He smiled, and turned towards the places where the others slept. Using his expert ability to walk as quietly as he had been trained to, Jonal walked up to each man and cut their throats as they slept. Finally, he had killed 8 men, but the two of importance still slumbered. Where had they laid down at? They were not with the 8 men. Had they used a spell to disguise their sleeping place?

For Jonal:

Unfortunately for Jonal, the last man he killed gave out a small sigh as he breathed his last breath. A sigh, which apparently disturbed the slumber of the two remaining targets, who shifted in their sleep. Jonal could hear slight sounds of movement from two seperate directions, one right in front of him, and the other behind him and towards the left.

Jonal reacted as fast as he could. He dropped to the ground and laid still hoping that the two awaking slumberers would just roll over and find heavy sleep again if they saw nothing to alarm them. With the two of them on either side of him in the dark, he needed to at least ascertain which of the two was closer or which one of the two would actually come nearer if at all. His best bet was to feign sleep in the dark if neither one of them saw him standing nor saw him fall to the ground. His sword lay under him, clutched in his excited hand. This was getting interesting.

For Jonal:

The two sleepers did not roll over as Jonal hoped, but luckily for him, neither of them woke up completely. The sounds coming from behind him quietened down nearly immediately, while the ones in front seemed to take a few minutes to cease.

The clouds above were starting to part and the moon was slowly becoming visible baithing the small clearing in an eery light, which only accuentated the death that had, and will occur inside it.

OOC: feel free to make your move as we had discussed Larry.

Post Option 1

Jonal Turamarth 78/78 56/56

Jonal looked at the scene of death that lay before him. All but two were dead in this team. Poor fools. Jonal had no fight with any of them, and was only hired to kill two specific people...but, their lives had to be taken. He could not afford to leave anybody behind to challenge him later.

He knew nothing of this gnome illusionist that Ghar had told him about. Zevin. Another stupid magic-wielder. Great. At length, Jonal decided that it would be Zevin to die first, since he owed a special death to Ghar.

He crept along, being extra careful now that the moon was adding light to the scenario. For Zevin, doom was tolling.

There he lay...asleep. He did not look like a gnome. He was too large. Why then was he called a gnome? He decided that since Ghar was the only other one to kill, and that the fool would not run from the challenge, Jonal decided to do something that he had never done before. Warn his victim.

Now, dear reader...don't get him wrong. He did not care about a fair fight and all tha rubbish. There was nothing fair in his motive. He wanted to kill Ghar while the man fought against him, and let the fool know that his magic did not save him and that Jonal's skills were superior. The look of defeat in a victim's eyes are so much the better than merely stabbing a sleeping, harmless man.

That's why Zevin was going to have the opportunity to awake to see his own death as well.

Jonal kicked the gnome awake, and Zevin leaped up from where he was, a startled cry erupting from his lips in the moon-bathed camp where everyone that had lain down to sleep would never rise again. Jonal only gave the gnome time to make that startled discovery and flinch as the blade came rushing in, stabbing through the heart and spilling the blood of the gnome to the ground, followed by the carcass. The death of the gnome ended the spell of illusion he had cast upon himself, and so there lay a dead gnome, returned to his natural state of appearance.

Jonal held up the bloodied blade in the moonlight to signal where he was. He waited for Ghar to come to him.
