A slight frown formed on her lips as she hung the neatly folded hood on her left hand ~ Drats, just a minute too late. ~ Darting a glance at Sayn, who had just ended a tete-a-tete with the shopowner and was fishing out the pouch ~ "I..." ~ She turned back to eye the intruder, her dark brown eyes glistened, then blinked momentarily ~ "I only have a minute to spare. What do you want?"

Her gaze began to shift between him and Sayn ~ I mustn't lose sight of her...

He looked around and saw the hooded one shopping, and realized that she was very concerned to keep her attention on her newfound friend. He turned back and smiled, realizing that she was tougher than he'd imagined and that this disguise was not as suitable as he had hoped. He was in need of a story. Hmmmm...

"My apologies for the intrusion. I could not help noticing that you look like me to a large measure...and...well...I have never known the land from whence I came. I was sold by my parents, as my Master tells me...to come and live in this land, away from the origin of my birth. When I see you, I see my home, and I only wish to know more of it. I see you are with the one that is cowled in cloth. Is she also from our land?"

Her back erected as she heard his words and she inhaled deeply before turning around to face him, a full ten seconds later ~ "You are from the East." ~ There was a slight tremor to her voice, which abruptly turned brusque ~ "It is obvious you have met a kind Master, for you look well." ~ Bowing slightly, she took a sidestep, then another, towards Sayn ~ "I am sorry, I see my friend is ready to go and your minute is up." ~ Emotions washed over her face, but all she did was look defiantly at him and return to her new friend.

Looking very disappointed but resolved to the decision of the lady, he watched her walk away from him.

Damn,,, but these two ladies are a tough pair to crack! I shall find my way in this group and learn what my fool curiosity desires to learn, then move on. I shall live for nothing else.

He pondered long over what steps to take to get in good with this team. As he did, he walked by a produce stand and eyed some fresh apples. They were too good to pass up. He dug deep in his pockets, but knew there would be nothing there. He needed a heavy snack, but did not want to lose sight of his prey. What could he do?

ooc-*insert drumroll here*

ic- A girl, if indeed it is a girl, wandered into the plaza. The youthful creature’s build is delicate and slender, and it is hard to tell if it is either a pretty, effeminate boy, or an even prettier girl. While not having the same beauty as that of an elf, it has a wild beauty of its own that reminds oneself of a sprite or pixie. Its slightly curly, shoulder-length, Renaissance-style hair of a pale yellow-gold hue looks slightly tangled and windswept as it frames the delicate pale face. The slightly large eyes are the main feature in its face, and cause no small amount of discomfort to passerby. The left eye is oddly void of expression and appears to be blind due to its milky white pupil, while the other eye is a vibrant emerald green with pale yellow flecks, reminiscent of the creature’s hair color. This eye is very penetrating and seems to be able to look right through you, which is accentuated by the vacant look of the left. The strange gaze along with the seemingly unisex – albeit beautiful – build makes passerby very uneasy and slightly wary around the being.

A few children ran up to the “girl” to gawk, and she smiled and talked to them eagerly before their worried mothers hurried over and ushered them away. The creature didn’t seem nonplussed by this reaction and continued to make its way among the various stalls while the other passerby made wide berth. Its appearance is slightly unkempt, not due to traveling, but to that of one who does not care much about such matters. It wears a silken, pale yellow shirt that goes to mid-thigh and has flowing sleeves, with a waist-length, comfortable fitting emerald green vest woven of a thicker, more protective unknown cloth over it. Underneath the vest a strong brown rope is looped around the creature’s waist to secure the shirt, and some small pouches are hanging off this at random intervals. Its brown-sugar coloured cloth pants of a warm, coarse material bell out and gather in at the top of its sturdy, cranberry-red calf-high boots, which have a strange furry substance woven into the inside. The eccentric creature’s entire wardrobe seems to be woven of the same material, from its medium-sized cranberry-red rucksack on its back down to its slightly travel-stained boots, and it does not appear to be rich nor carry any weapon – in fact it does not seem to travel with many necessities that one expects of a traveler.

Despite this, the being appears healthy and sound in every way, except maybe in the mind – a rumour is being whispered that it has conversations with the air and other things that most humanoids cannot communicate with, such as squirrels, flowers, and dogs, among other things.

ooc- now switching to my char’s point of view instead of the onlooker

ic- Sive (ooc- pronounced “shee-vah”) wandered about the marketplace. She was still wondering why that woman had rushed up and made the children go away when she was in the middle of telling them a story. She shrugged to herself dismissively and smiled at a frowning middle-aged man who was walking by, who in return frowned more deeply and loped to the farthest side of the plaza. She paused a moment and tilted her head to one side, as if listening to something. “You’re right, I should get something to eat. But this place is so interesting! I don’t want to leave yet,” she whined to the seemingly empty air before drifting over to a nearby food stall. The vendor eyed her apprehensively, and she gave him a genial smile. “I would like some food, please,” she said.

He asked gruffly “Do you have money to pay for it sir… miss… eh, traveler?”

Sive tilted her head to one side and gave him a perplexed look. “Money…? Oh! Those cold disks with the strange scribbles on them. Well, to tell you the truth, no. I was hoping I could get some food in exchange for some information.” she told the hawker with a pleasant smile. He stared at with a mixture of disbelief and suspicion while shifting his feet uneasily. Her gaze was starting to unnerve him, and her presence was scaring off his prospective customers.

“What kind of information did you have in mind?”he rumbled at her with a scowl.

“So you agree then?” Sive asked, brightening.

He gave her an irritated glance. “Yes, yes, anything to be rid of ye!”

The effeminate creature tilted its head to one side again, as if listening. “Well… you have half a day left before your stall collapses around you and your wares. And the lost necklace you bought for your daughter is under the grain sack.” The vendor stared at Sive aghast while she continued. “Could I please have a few apples, a few loaves of bread and milk with honey in it, if you have any?”

The merchant quickly checked under the grain sack and returned with the necklace clutched in his stunned hand. “How ye be knowing this? Nay, don’t tell me,” he said shakily, and gathered the strange foodstuffs she asked for. She wandered away munching on an apple and with the rest of the food in her brightly coloured pack, leaving the vendor to hurriedly collect his wares before the stall disintegrated around him.

ooc- I hope my first post is alright ^^;

EDIT- just changing Sive's font color so its not too much like mistral's

OOC>>>Very interesting character! I was reading a short story in the FR setting where this guy had similar powers and could tell people their future, but he saw all possible outcomes (like hundreds), and so it drove him kinda crazy, because he never could have clear and precise thoughts...and people were sorta afraid of him. ANYWAY...'ere we go.

=================================================

Markul

The Eastern man stood there in awe, as he watched the conversation between this stranger and the merchant that he was trying to buy from. He had the same problem of not having the money...but he could not perform any trick like that, which would impress anyone. No...he'd just scare everyone with his ability.

Not having the fear of the wierd like normal people do, Markul followed the stranger a pace before speaking up to get her/his attention.

He had an idea.

"Pardon me, I could not help but notice your trick back there with the merchant. Might we talk?"

Irinisayn collected her newly purchased belongings, smiled fondly at Ribald, then went to gather her companion.

"Well, the money is well spent now. I got quite a significant discount too, so we should have enough money for a meal and a night at the One-Eyed Wolf, and one at the next inn we chance upon as well." Her mouth was curled into a faint, apparent smile; she was obviously fairly pleased with herself. She then wetted her lips and added, "Let's be off then, shall we? There is much to talk about before we set off on our journey, and the sun is growing dim."

She nodded eagerly at Sayn ~ "Let's go." ~ Her cheeks had turned back to their usual hue, with the retreat of the unwelcome youth ~ "Do let me know if there's anything I should be doing tonight, in preparation for our journey tomorrow." ~ A contented sigh ~ "I hope I will not disappoint you." ~ How familiar the words tasted in her lips as she spoke them, so naturally, as if... as if it were he.

Yet as soon as this thought floated to her consciousness, she nearly stomped her feet in vexation ~ This will not do at all, Ji Xiang. You are a disgrace. ~ She strode forward, as if to do so would allow her to fling her cogitations behind ~ No wonder Teacher wanted you to leave his side. You have to learn to be independent.

And so it was, that Fate had brought her to the strange lady Sayn. Ever so composed, organised and street-wise, she was indeed the most suitable adventuring companion for a young debutante as herself ~ Infinitely better than any man. ~ Her cheeks slightly coloured, though she knew the wisdom of her decision ~ Yes, Sayn will do, just for me. ~ As they made their way back to the cosiness of the One-Eyed Wolf, she spoke nothing more, except to answer what questions Sayn had for her.

(ooc: *HUGS MISTRAL* )

Sayn felt almost anxious as she made her way back to the One-Eyed Wolf, anticipating the beginning of tomorrow's journey. Strange of you, Sayn, it's not as though it's an epic quest. Naught but a delivery, as far as you're concerned.

Yet she felt the shiver of excitement run down her spine, causing her to clench her cloak tighter around her shoulders. For all her countless years of traveling she was keen on this? There must be something in the air...

When she entered the threshold of the tavern she paused for a moment to spy a small wooden table in the corner. She gestured for her companion, then sat down across from her. Living up to the renowned quality of the establishment, a waitress was with them in moments. Sayn looked at the menu for only a few seconds before confidently deciding, "I'll have the soup and a goblet of spiced wine, please." She then stared patiently at Xiang, waiting for her to order and for the serving wench to leave before she got down to business.

IC>>>
”Likewise for me.” ~ The quaver in her tone betrayed some misgiving, but she nodded her confirmation and inwardly sighed as the waitress discreetly retreated ~ Never mind what you order, just be as inconspicuous as possible so you can get on with it. ~ Setting aside her newly acquired hood on the bench, she faced Sayn again ~ I wish she’d just remove her hood… all this concealment is getting a little on my nerves… ~ Her shifty feet tried to remain still as she spoke ~ “I’m ready to listen.”
