madmarcos aka madmarcos from san antone, tx
32 going on x, where x depends upon how i feel when i wake up

i am not surprised by the average age of person here. most younger rpger's i think are drawn towards mmorpgs (really complicated chat rooms) or action games like diablo.
sigh, we are the defenders of the last bastion of traditional crpg.

Hi there Morthal,
you're from Kiel huh? The great shipyard capital of the EU! Well, ok if not of the EU then at least of Germany and one of the most important of the EU . Gotten a glance at HDW's new Type 14 sub yet? Seems like it just may be the best non-nuclear submarine in the world, and one of the very best, period. Truly an historic place to live at, Kiel.

Btw, I remember the Realms of Arkania series, wasn't it a German crpg? Was one of my favorites. IIRC I went through 3 games of that series. The last one, Shadows over Riva, was really decent I thought. Too bad the series ended. There was also a co. I remember, Bluebyte I think, who, among other games, made one called Albion. Also a really nice crpg... What ever happened to RoA anyhow? I wonder why that series was discontinued...

I'm 28.
Wife is 26.
We live in Cali.
We both play Wizardry.
Nice to see that this game is attracting more of the "mature" crowd. I do get tired of the whiny, obnoxious teens you find on many other computer game forums.

Hi,
my real name is Axel and I am 'only' 21 years old. I come from Germany and study technical computer science in a small city near Hamburg. I play RPGs as long I can remember, think I started with Bards Tale or Dungeon Master. When I do not study or playing Wizardry I spend most of my time with a MUD (Multi User Dungeon) called Xyllomer. It is mediaeval fantasy game based on telnet protocol (for those who do not know, only text, no graphics ).
I cannot believe that I am really one of the youngest here, but I guess most of the kids (hope you old farts don't count me as one too ) prefer faster games like Q3 which require far less thinking.

Vader

Check www.xyllomer.de for more infos. It is all english and we always welcome new additcs
PS: prolly down till monday for maintaince

Oh, I must admit that I never heard of that new sub. All I always see in the docks are those Superfast-ships. I think that must be the fastest large passenger-ships, a sheik ordered about 10 of them. Never had such glorious impressions of Kiel. Regarding the status of a 'state capitol' it is pretty provincial. WW2 destroyed all old buildings and the new look is an annoying mixture of styles. Always needs a huge amount of time until something new is invented here. In my early inet-times there was not even a Compuserve-node, we got our first 'Burger King' since half a year. That's speaks for itself.
The east part where we live is more and more going down. Can't cross the main place here without being asked to buy/sell hard drugs, and you can buy that seed of the demon in nearly each 2nd vegetable- and kebab-shop. I always was satisfied from a good smoke, never let anything conquer my soul or ravage my body.

I think RoA (DSA) was the baby of Guido Henkel who left Attic after finishing part 3. It is one of my alltime favourites, part 2 I liked most. And it is one of the very few games that let you import parties in later parts...awesome, I love that.
Ahh, Albion, memories awake, heh. Did you play Amberstar and Ambermoon? I remember that it was a real quantum step regarding the grapics. Ambermoon came on 4 disks for the Amiga what had been huge at that time. And you could also import the party from part 1 to 2. Albion was kind of part 3 of that series.

Wow Moni,
You did well with this topic
It amazes me the average age of the ppl who play crpg's. I thought I was getting too old (45). But so many of you are coming out of the closert...so to speak.
My wife could never understand how anyone could get so involved in a computer game. Oh sure, when Mario Bros came out on the Nintendo she would play for hours hitting the buttons as quick as she could to jump onto the next floating cloud or whatever. That was fun for her. Nothing too involving, just have to have quick reflexes. In the meantime I would try and sneak in some time with Zelda.
But when I got Dungeons and Dragons on the Sega I just got totally involved with the game. The stats for character creation....the mapping on graph paper, ( thankyou game designers for automapping ) the first person perspective, the turn based combat, I just loved it. I had to actually think and become one of the characters to play...oh bliss.
In between then and now there have been many a game. Notable ones being Might and Magic series till VI (which I hated), fallout - didnt finish, Baldurs Gate 2 - still playing but ho hum, Wizardy Gold - couldnt finish and didnt keep a save file,,,grrrrr, Stonekeep - interesting but just missing something, Anvil of Dawn - gosh I just hate those hit this button and the door across the hallway and down the corridor will open type puzzels, amd heaps others but I will stop rambling on.
The main reason I was replying (again) to this posting was I just wanted to say Hi to all you crpg lovers. Its kinda nice to know your there.
