I don't remember this incident. What I do know is that Drizzt's sword is a Frostbrand as per 1st Edition rules. It is +3 normally, but +6 against fire-based creatures. It also provides 50% reduction of any damage from fire-based attacks.
That's what I was thinking.

How many Frostbrands are there?

So Frostbrand isn't a unique weapon? If it has a name I would reckon it would be unique

The question of how many frostbrands there are can be answered by a little research. I visited the Harpells and Aurora's store to investigate. Well, actually I just went to Aurora's to pick up a false-bottomed scabbard for my rapier (which is named Wit), but I did ask around about frostbrands.

In the Forgotten Realms each hamlett is allocated 3 Frostbrands (along with 3 of each other type of elemental sword) to aid in defense. One of these is normally carried by the chief member of the town guard, and regulations require the other 2 be maintained in a warehouse for adventurers to loot in times of need. Because Drizzt has achieved widespread popularity, in part due to Volo's publications about him, Elminster and his coven of pipe-smoking god-like misfits deemed in D.R. 1370 that henceforth at least 1 of the frostbrands in each town should be a scimitar, because that's what adventurers want. Apparently, Rapier frostbrands have not "been the rage" since the time of the "Rapier Pirate Lords" when the blades became very trendy on the Sea of Fallen Stars.

Well, it's unique in that Drizzt named it Icingdeath. I think a frostbrand is just any magical weapon with ice powers.

When will they make a frostbrand called "Dentyne"?

Heh, I was just thinking of one I saw in the old game, Eye of the Beholder III. It was a short sword called Frostbite.

Another point, in the phrasing of one of my friends...

"Really, which sane person names his scimitar Twinkle? Huh? Huh?"

Kaltia, Drizzt doesn't actually name Twinkle, the Harpell who gave it to him did. (Malchor, if I remember correctly).

I've nearly finished The Lone Drow, and I must say, something of the old Salvatore is there, imo.
SPOILER!!

Later on in the book, when Tarathiel fights Obould, for the first time since maybe the Icewind Dale Trilogy, I was anxious. As Tarathiel ducked and dived, dodging Obould's greatsword and trying to find a weakness in his armour, I was on edge, silently hoping he would survive somehow. It was incredible, Salvatore had managed to engross and enthrall me while the fight was happening. After he got killed, I felt a depression that few authors manage to invoke when a character is killed. It was amazing. There was something there, something that drew me in and held me there while the fight was going on. I refused to put the book down until I had completed that chapter. That is something of the old Salvatore I remember. You (in general) may disagree, but I think there definitely was something there, how he had brought Tarathiel to life and managed to make me feel depressed after he was killed. I loved every moment of it.

actually the only character I've ever really hated to see die of Salvatores was the dwarf cleric that got squished by the Wall of Iron in the fight that "killed" Wulfgar, but then my first PC was a dwarf cleric.

Yea, I miss Cobble too.

And it was Malchor who named Twinkle. And what's wrong with naming a weapon, Twinkle? It could have been worse...

It could have been named Lilly!
