Saz, medical science is divided over what is known as postprandial somnolence, or "why I fall asleep in lectures after lunch." Some say that it is the "alkaline tide" from the neutralising of so much stomach acid. Others say that the blood flow of the body is switched to the "Celiac Axis," depriving the brain of blood and making it sluggish with piled up metabolic byproducts. Me, all I know that when they used to show xrays at Parkland Hospital right after lunch, the sound of foreheads hitting desks almost kept me awake.
Hm, I think I'd tend to subscribe to the latter school of thought; the blood flow being redirected to the digestive process and the brain growing sluggish in the meanwhile.

Of course, sheer boredom (like being in a droning lecture or looking at exhilirating X-rays ) sure doesn't help!

Saz & Attalus,

I learned very quickly in my college career to never, never, NEVER take a class between 11:30am - 1:00pm unless there was just NO OTHER WAY.

I had to take an Accounting Principle II class after lunch my sophomore year and I got more sleep in that class than in my dorm room.

One day, I actually started snoring in class, and the guy sitting next to me gave me a quick poke in the ribs to wake me up. When I looked down at my notebook, I almost burst out laughing.

My handwriting got less and less legible and finally just faded into a single line that "slid" down the page for a few lines before going off the paper.

LOL, one day there was no seat left in x-ray conf except on the front row, and, despite my best efforts, nodding off. I got a poke form the guy behind me, and there was Dr. Jones, the radiologist, looking down at me and shaking his head. Luckily, he was a really nice guy.

Hi, Jen, why on earth would you go to Deathmage's Realms when you have here? We are fine, though we had to chase our small auxiliary dog for two hours this morning. She is at the vets as punishment.
