Just thought about it again... option 5. Hire someone to do it. It will cost a bit more, but then again...

... the ability to die in the process is theirs, not yours

... it will probably be done in two days or less, as opposed to the weeks and legions of (soon-to-be-ex-) friends that will be involved.

Busy day here today. The dog is off to get inspected and probably have his hip replaced (he's a young pup, and hip dysplasia is a bad thing at any age). Kids are off to vacation bible school. And I've got a ton of work to do... so I'm frittering my time away here in the cafe instead

Hmmm... idea, drill a hole in the center of stump. Insert explosives, get to safe distance and detonate.

I'm also wondering why so many people consider Washington to have been the first president. I just did some more poking around, apparently it was actually some guy named John Hanson, whom in my experience almost no one remembers. Enough of my rambling, I'm off.

The trick is using enough explosives to remove *all* the roots in the yard... and since you said it was half-covered, that would be defined as "a lot"

Then, of course, having the house still standing afterwards would be a really big plus too...

As for Mr Hanson, Wikipedia, that fount of knowledge which could be true or not, says otherwise. Quoting...

Quote:
First president

The most common myth about Hanson was that he was the first President of the United States.

The origin of the claim that Hanson is the "forgotten" first President stems from a 1932 book by Seymour Wemyss Smith titled John Hanson – Our First President. Officially Hanson was the third President of the Continental Congress, and he considered himself a successor to the first two men to hold the office, Samuel Huntington and Thomas McKean. He was the first to serve a full one-year term, and the first to formally use the title President of the United States in Congress Assembled.

The office of the President of the United States in Congress Assembled was, despite the name, not an executive post. It bears a closer resemblance to the modern Speaker of the United States House of Representatives or Vice President of the United States. The office was in existence from 1781 to 1788, under the Articles of Confederation, and was replaced by the modern office of President of the United States when the Constitution took effect in 1789. The modern office is significantly more powerful as an executive position.
Snopes agrees, and explains in more detail.

I think they decided to drill a hole in the stump and pour in a cocktail of chemicals to poison it. It will kill it off at least and stop parts from growing.

I ache like hell though.

Congrats, FSA! Let's break out a bit of DS's Educational Research Funds and celebrate!

HAPPY UNCLEHOOD FSA!

ROTFL... yes, let's 'borrow' some funding from DS's research!

Had one of those crazy, everyone's running around and nobody is getting done what they need to type of mornings. Hubby had a dentist appt he'd forgotten and didn't make arrangements with work to be a little late because of it... I was running late and trying to herd kittens (a near impossible task!), we had boxes to scoop, lunches to make and all in all, it was a hectic way to start the day!
