He has two ex wives. I think info from one of them was about his dominance of his step son. Almost every report I've seen says the younger guy was his step son, but one report said they weren't sure.

Isn't it interesting that he wasn't a military sniper or special forces.

One military analyst before they were captured said if he was military, most likely he was a "wanna be". Funny that the retired officer seems to have hit it, while the other serial killer experts missed in their profiles.

2 pieces of gas pipe, a coupling, a nail with the point filed and a heavy rubber band can make an improvised gun.
Sher designed and built a 9mm full auto (no selective fire ability) with internal Suppression. This was done with only a drill as a power tool.
All the tools were normal hand tools. All parts came from a regular industrial metal supplier. Total cost about $25 and about 60 hours to make.
In a small machine shop the time Would be reduced to around 8-10 hours each.
A working musket can be made out of your local Home improvement centre.
While I’d Don’t really know enough on the actualities to talk with any authority on gun control,
There really is _NO WAY_ that you can stop people getting hold of firearms if they want them bad enough.
You can make Explosives at home if you really want them and know how.
You can pick up an enormous Great Kitchen Knife in Thousands of Stores Nationwide.
You just cannot stop people getting hold of a weapon with considerable lethal potential if they want it bad enough.

I sit back and ponder whether the 9th word in this post is a typo or deliberate. Of course, being America, you guys would have historical presidents - I think that precedence has been well and truly set. And some of those historical presidents have been associated with unprecedented prohibition. But the thought arises as to whether we are arming those bears, or "ram"ing them again - hey - whatever .

All in all, the post (quoted) was about impossibility and futility, and if too many people feel that way then nothing will change. It is a good means of arguing to maintain the status quo - if the arguments for the case are running out of steam, then argue that it is too hard to make effective change.

Re: Q1. Never, never, never, EVER negotiate with terrorists. Slip even once, and the floogates open. If you make a policy and stick with it, you discourage the profit motive.

Q4 and the gun control "debate": More laws won't solve a damned thing. Sickos can and will do this sort of thing; and they almost always do it with illegally obtained weapons, which by definition bypass the legal system. Making the snipers weapon illegal (for example) just means the law abiding people won't be able to own them for legimate purposes such as a national defence reserve.

What we (Canada and the USA) need is better public surveillance. eg., closed circuit TV watching the streets, in public phone booths, etc. Yes, I know this sounds big-brotherish but surveillance of PUBLIC PLACES is a small price to pay, and an insignificant threat to law-abiding citizens privacy.

(Obviously, the ones screaming loudest about street surveillance would be the criminal element)

Shootings, yes. Violent crime, no. There is actually a higher incidence of physical abuse and intimidation in UK society. Some may argue that's still better than being shot. Personnally, I'd rather have the option of capping the ass of any moron who thinks he can push people around just because he happens to outweigh everybody else.

And no woman need fear the night if she has a couple of pounds of iron to even things out.

And what if you're a hunter.

Nope. Find another hobby. One that doesn't involve destroying life.
Well, I am a hunter and while shooting deer, rabbits and game birds is more efficient and humane I guess I can use my bow for the job.Hunting arrows do tend to make a dreadfull hole and make the poor creatures insides look like they have been put through a blender, but hey at least its not a gun. Then again there is always the spear option. Nothing like heaveing an 8 foot long stick with a 2 foot long blade on it into a deer. It wont be much fun with birds or rabbits though since it will tend to stick them to the ground. I could also go out into the wilderness and set up a few snares for whatever I am after.Bird and rabbit snares are harmless enough. Then again the big game platform snares and spike snares might cause a few casualties since I cant watch and make sure no humans step into them. The bottom line is , that as long as deer, rabbits and pheasants taste good, gun or no gun I am going to make them into dinner.I dont see it as destroying life since all they are is food for other animals in the wild. I see it as filling my fridge with the freshest meat possible.

Nope. Not even then.

British cops don't have guns. Only the feds I believe. And those in Northern Ireland. Correct me if I'm wrong you British people.... (as if they need encouragement)
That is untrue. Bobbies, as a rule, don't carry but scotland yard certainly does, and I heard from a coworker that is from england (and still has relatives there) that they are arming bobbies for certain jurisdictions.
