Not that i ever would sware but ok. Having a large enough vocabulary to not use thoes words and confuse the person who is annoying you is fun especially if they don't pic up on the fact that you are making fun of them without swaring my parents hated us using thouse words so i usually don't, except when i'm extreamly angry which might occure on a bianual bases.

A carefully crafted statement that does not have any vulgarities in it can still hurt a person much, much more than spontaneous profanity. That said and done, I only resort to swearing when I am truly steamed and am unable to think coherently.

This of course, means that this only occurs when I am talking, not typing; since I can take my time to type, and take back what I say(type?) before I click on the Reply button.

Heh... I was 14 before I said the 'F' word due to my wallet being stolen in school( imagine the bugged-eyed look on my classmate as he witnessed the unthinkable ). Since then, I have used it very sporadically whenever I talk. Thing is, I have an inbuilt instinctive gag-reflex whenever I want to use really bad swear words in front of people, and I will have to thank my parents for this. Due to this gag-reflex, I only utter them when the pressure is sufficient enough to bypass the gag-reflex.

I use freak, not f***. Bloody Hell, Baka, Darn, Damn, Doh, ARGH, GAH, etc... are some of my more common ones.

Due to my multicultural environment, I also know several... colourful swear words in various languages and dialects. When 99% of what you know of a languange are the swear words... it can be totally warped.

Working in construction you tend to cuss a lot on the job. With many variations and phrases lol When your standing in shin-deep mud (like today) in tends to bring out a bit of profanity That being said I try not to cuss in public places like restaurants, malls, convenience stores etc. Kind of funny though when I got out of bootcamp many years ago my dad, grandmother, aunt and uncle were there to take me to lunch after the big ceremony. Being rather used to cussing at that point I asked my grandmother to pass me the f***ing salt. I was somewhat mortified right afetr I said it but she understood

Growing up in a house were anything worse than darn or shoot was cussing made some difference in my growing up. But, when I moved out and was around more people that cussed it sort of became a normal thing to do. That had to change after my son started talking (lol). My mom thought he'd gotten some of the words he said from the movies I watched; and of course I let her think that while promising not to let watch those shows with me). What really made me start to watch my language around him was when we came back from shopping with my mom, to find that my cats had gone berzerk and knocked things down and Patrick put his hands on his hips and said "what the hell?".

Yes, but add in a carefully crafted profanity and the statement contains additional offense to without it.

Would I be in trouble if I said I thought you were effing right, Ziroc?

On a more serious note, I have to say that swearing in moderation doesn't bother me at all, but if it were to happen too often I imagine it would give the forum a cheap, tacky look. It would also be off-putting for visitors and perhaps make the younger members feel a little uncomfortable, so maybe this regulation is for the best. I shall refrain from using the 'f' word and stick to my old favourite of 'splice my sausages!' when I feel the need for a strong expletive

Good rule!!! I have on occasion said some mild swearings with deliberate typos like sh!t, but will now reframe from even that. You see, my 6 year old son has takin an interest In my gaming and therefore my chatting about gaming. I have said before that I liked the cleanliness and politeness of this forum. I have turned a few friends on to this forum, and do appreciate your integrity on this matter.

Anyway [edit],I think people should be able to express them selves without the use of profanity, even if I think they are completly harmless.
I think he's never watched free-to-air prime time TV in Australia...

I have no problem not swearing if asked (i haven't here because i just assumed it would be banned) but what is the difference between actually using it, and writing "the f word" or @&#% ??

We seem to be talking now about visual offence as I don't think anyone's dumb enough to not know what "the f word" means. Or that #^$*% means a variety of swear words (you can usually approximate which one by it's use too)

This is not an issue with Ziroc or the rules because he is following the mores of his society. But it is this social attitude that seems odd to me. Everyone can think it, know what it means etc... but as soon as someone says it, that's offensive?

Our media took to quoting direct statements with all letters intact some time ago. The thought being that it's an accurate reproduction of the speaker's words, not the words of the writer per se, therefore if someone takes offence, they should take offence at the speaker, not the newspaper/magazine/etc

For example, using {} to display where the actual letters would be, if I reply to a post that's annoyed me with:

{the f word} You!

or

XXXX You!

or

*#$% You!

or even

Funk You!

The sentiment does not change one bit. The letters representing it change but the meaning remains exactly the same and everyone who reads it knows what it says regardless. Why have some societies got to a point where it's okay to say/write Funk, but turn that n just 90 degrees ccw and lop off the tail bit...
