There's plenty of money around, much of it in the pockets of people like Bill Gates, and the many many others who make unfeasibly large amounts of money whilst others are starving. Your country doesn't believe in state provided services, and proper safety nets for those in need. What you describe is the consequence of that.

When taxes continue to be lowered whilst people are in dire need, and essential services are provided by private contractors - that's what you get. It's all about priorities. Under Tony Blair, Britain continues down the road that the US has already taken. Blair is finishing what Thatcher started, the privitisation of Britain

You make good points Silver Cheetah, all of which I agree with, but the point that Memnoch and others are trying to make is in the delivery. If you were to omit the first paragraph would this strengthen or weaken your argument? I think it would be the latter. Likewise asking 'is this a discussion forum or a nursery school?' doesn't help your cause.

I think what Memnoch wants to remove from the forum is 'incivility' rather than sarcasm. I have seen people being uncivil to each other on this forum, but this has been a two way street. Sometimes this can take the form of an opening sentence like yours or something like 'You must be joking, right?'

When Yorick posted his Brits thread I didn't get over excited. It was obviously complete and utter twaddle.

I will give two examples of posts that I felt to be uncivil.
Originally posted by Yorick in reply to a thread by tracey in which she misspelt the word 'Propaganda':

People, this is a post of such ignorant, paranoid delusion I cannot express enough the importance of disregarding it.

There is no such thing as "propogander" either BTW. Try "Propaganda" for size.
[/QUOTE}

Then,in response to a semi-joking post about the reception that the Australian fotballers got in Uruguay, Silver Cheetah for some reason brought up the subject of gun control in the US, suggesting that Yorick lived there. When Yorick said that he would not be returning to the US before Christmas SC's reply was:

'Amidst all her ills, America at last has something to smile about! '

I thought this was uncivil (although, forgive me Hugh it made me laugh.) If Yorick had seen the joke he may have taken umbrage, if I had said it (I hope) he would have laughed it off.

No-one is suggesting that people on this forum should not post their opinions and if sarcasm isn't allowed then there is little point in me posting on IW

Just my two euros.

BTW if you want to see real sarcasm look here:

Excellent post, Donut. Shows once again that you are an Ironworks treasure. Please don't leave! (emotional blackmail)

I replied to your rather unsubtle bit of sarcasm in that link you provided by the way. Speaking of which, did you have a good time at the pub watching Fulham flog the Spurs? Oh, pardon me...I didn't realize they'd won.

Very funny Donut. Glad to see the lighter side of things as usual. I should leap to my defense though and point out two things though.

1."People, this is a post of such ignorant, paranoid delusion I cannot express enough the importance of disregarding it.

The statement is towards the post, not the person. It was in the context of a postal presentation of an alternate perception of current affairs.

Similarly this:
"There is no such thing as "propogander" either BTW. Try "Propaganda" for size." emphasised the misunderstanding of the word propaganda, used postwardly in an incorrect fashion. I included a definition for clarity as well.

2.Cheetah's jocular jibe was of a personal nature. Suggesting America was better without me in it. Not very nice.

Anyhow, whatever...... I for one shall heed the call to be less sarcasticaly attacking in my posts henceforth.

It was indeed. And yes, you seem to have got the gist wonderfully well. Most impressive. Congratulations!

AAAACCCCKKKKK!!!! The thread diverges! I have no clue which is the better to post my reply. So, at the risk of being accused of spamming, I'll post it in both.
-----------------------------------

Well, the way I see it!

*Ducks thrown tomato*

There are entirely too many thin-skins who like to complain to the teacher when another kid sticks their tongue out at them.

I FULLY understand that the mods don't want to muck through a bunch of G.S.W. (Gripe, Snivel, Whine) mail every day! They shouldn't have to. The only thing they should need to get involved with is the obscene, the illegal, and board vandals. I personally think it's too late to save this particular board. The tight regulation it requires is going to squeeze the very life from it. If people are already dogging the mods with complaints of someone being sarcastic, and sarcasm is going to be frowned upon, I hear the death rattle coming.
Killed by drowning in a deluge of complaints.

You know one day lol I am goingg to be able to come over here without it being in the middle of contraversial stuff.

I believe the misunderstanding between Aradia and Ziroc has been sorted now.

Mem I know u have to make ur decisions based on what u see which is why I tried to say something.

lets just hope things calm down a little again...... heheh and people wonder why I am on a managerial break.

Wow, first night back on the war forum in a while, haven't been through the first page of catch-up and I'm already getting a tic! LOL! Just wanted to make a couple of statements:

I love all out rough and tumble debate. I can give as well as receive, and I have been guilty on more than one occasion of being too harsh. The reason that I left the War Forum for a while was not because of restrictions or thin skin. It was out of respect for Ziroc and the Mods who make this place possible. I admit, I have questioned the authorities before ::sends a wink Memnoch's way:: but I came to the conclusion eventually that all of the enjoyment that I have found on this board is due to them! Therefor, I decided to take a break and gather my priorities before coming back onto this forum and biting the hands that feed by doing what they have asked the members not to do. It doesn't mean I won't mess up in the future, but I will never try to purposefully disrespect Ziroc (who deserves our utmost thanks) or any of those that he has deemed fit to be in charge. (In other words, I wanted to respect IW as I would another's home. If you were to visit someone, would you stand and argue with them if they asked you to remove your shoes before walking on their carpet)

My other statement is about Yorick. I cannot understand how anyone could have ANYTHING bad to say about him. Sure he slips sometimes (as do we all) and I don't always agree with what he has to say, but I sometimes wonder if it is the intelligence in wich he says things that upset some people. Yorick is one of the easiest people on this board to get along with. Quick to forgive others, easygoing, and undeserving of the negative feelings that I have been picking up while catching up on the current events of IW. I feel as though I am in high school all over again, where people get insecure over popularity issues.

Ziroc, Thank you for IW

Mods, thank you for having Ziroc's back and devoting so much time to our ungrateful butts

Hugh, Hang in there, friend. It's probably just a wave. But I'm sure you know this.

Amanda
