Well sure, but does a Christian have to be dogmatic about everything? Do only Tao masters have a mortgage on free thinking? There's a strong Biblical argument for the idea that Christs grace works for people even if they don't know Christ. Meaning that Christ judges the heart, not actions, and that choosing to accept or reject a message from a flawed message deliverer is an action.

If someone IS going to believe, it's important that the decision is an independent, genuine conclusion, not a force fed, inherited ideology without conviction. Better to be hot or cold than lukewarm.

I also care about an individuals feelings. Care brought about from having Christ love me.

But I take your point. It's not the first time the word 'Zen' has been comparitively used when I've spoken - even in a Church. It's just I find that rather ironic that's all.

Unless your actions be shameful.

Intent is not the only measure of rightiousness, the road to hell, after all is paved with good intentions. I for one believe there are black and white lines between good and evil, decent and shameful.

Magik, just a small point of correction. When you quote me as writing:

What you do is your own business and you shouldn't need to feel ashamed no matter what path you take.

...In fact, I was quoting Yorick.

I talking within the specific context of finding or rejecing faith or spirituality, not enshrining a global, grand unified mantra.

The "norseman" I presume you mean a viking had no horn in their helmets, and also they used wood or hide for their shields which were usually alot bigger.

From what I read, the Vikings did wear horned helmets, though only on ceremonial occasions.

Hmmm, a Viking doing Tai Chi -- fancy that!

Yorick, which aspects of Buddhism do you disagree with? I'm just curious to know.

I've actually composed a fantasy not-so-short story exploring religious and philosophical issues. Mostly talking, but some special effects too. Took more than 2 years to write. Not yet finished, but very close. Microsoft Word file. Runs to about 50 pages. Anyone interested? (I can send it to you via email.)

About Christianity, what denomination of Christain are you? A few months ago, I left the mainstream Presbyterian Church. I left because the Church was trying to attract more people by appearing unchurchlike. But they went to far, and it ended up being too unchurchlike. Also, I knew many people who called themselves Christains and went to church, but didnt do Christain things, or act like a Christain, outside of church. Par contre, I know many people who when questioned about religion, call themselves athiests, yet they are good, honest people, never afraid to give support, help people up etc. Basically, I know athiests who act like Christains should, and Christains who act like athiests. This sort of destroyed the illusion of the church for me.

So now I am looking for a new denomination.

Many thanks for any comment you are to give...

- a lost christain

Scholarcs,
The name on the building that I choose to worship with fellow christains is the "church of Christ". I've met and worshiped with christains from many differant denominations. Through the years I have found both the sencere (sp?) and insencere populate the pews. Personally I leave the sifting of the wheat from the chaff to God.

Well thoose that wore horns in their helmets didn´t go out fighting. To have horns in your helmets mean that you have a bigger target that could help snap your neck or tangle in the sails and such. Vikings were both good sailors and fighters. Plus, a horned helmet is harder to make than one without too. The ceremonial helms you mentioned were considered "hats". But they were also not that customary. Some findings of the danish vikings have shown that horns have been fastened to helms. Could be the closeness to to the germanic tribes here..

Well I will not continue this off topic here hehe!

I have one question to you guys though..

I have seen some examples about religion clashing with politics here, or at least an unsteady ground. Is their sort of a religion in the church and one religion in the street so to say??

And what are you views upon this? Should religion and politics be two seperated things, and how does that in the case of a yes concern a person that divide his life in two, one political say career and on religious..?

And I have to agree with Cerek! This is truelly a cool thread!

Thank you guys! You have made booring coffee pauses more interesting!

I believe that there has to be only one kind of religion, one which governs ALL your life, not just the life you have in church.

I couldn't agree more. What did Jesus say Love the Lord your God with all your Heart, Mind and Soul. (parphasied by me)
