Sephi, knowing he had to move quickly, put the mirror under the ray of light at an angle. However, the result surprised even him.
What was just one ray of light spread, becoming a wide fan while keeping the same intensity. The fighters stopped in their tracks, the mages' casting was disrupted, and discord reigned through the room. Unfortunately the barrage lasted only a few brief seconds, but in those precious few seconds he had done more than enough optical damage to his combatants.
But the mercenaries quickly regained their composure, and came at him again, albeit quite a bit less accurate. A sword swipe that was intended for him missed completely, at least three feet to his left. Sephi grabbed his forearm and brought it down hard on his shoulder, snapping it like a twig and causing the man to howl in pain. Then he spun, taking the man with him, and sent himself under the armored man's arm, jabbing him in the throat with the points of his fingers on his left hand, dropping him to the floor instantly.
But the mages didn't need accuracy as long as they had area effect spells. Two glowing orbs went forward, splitting when they reached points next to Sephi. One of them lowered his ability to resist their spells, making him much more vulnerable. The other one, however, was meant to bring him down emotionally and make him feel absolutely hopeless. Hah! There are advantages to killing your emotions, you know!
Knowing he had given himself away, he skittered away and blended in with the shadows, moving in behind one of the mages. He drew Shocksword without a sound, then jammed it into the mage's heart, killing him instantly. Sephi kicked him off of his sword, wiped the blade off, then went back into the shadows.

She dashes towards the inferno, her haunted eyes hunting for Larry. At the same time, she pulls out the ring of fire resistance and screams ~ "Isabeau!" ~ the hawk is by her side within two seconds ~ "Bring this to Larry! Hurry!" ~ Isabeau grips the ring with her beak and sails ahead, her beady eyes locating Larry within moments. Flapping her wings furiously in front of him, she stops him in his path and deposits the ring into his pocket, shrieking loudly.

ooc...I am going to leave the story there, for now.
Kaz and Neb will want in on the action in the morning.
Maybe they can find out who the bad guys are.
(hint...these mages did this on purpose to remove successful bussinesmen from their positions in society.)
They are also not human nor elven
Don't take them out so fast...come up with a good story for them...
I will let you have some fun there...these three mages should be considerably tough, and they work together, with nobody else...just the three of them.

Mistral, since you will be on here until I come back on in the morning...could you add some more depth to the plot, and make it stronger for me?
And let's leave something for Deiter to play with. We can easily extend this plot into two divisions fighting and rescue. I am only interested in the rescue for now. Neb and Kaz can chase the bad guys for a while...(and you have all the time you want to do it in. In fact...tommorrow, if you have taken it far enough...I will be the bad guys that are fighting the two of you. That will make it more fun. Just let me have time to get there!

Larry takes the ring and quickly placed it on his hand, feeling a little safer. It was like a perfect kiss from Mistral, and he now felt even better at his decision to lend aid.

Motioning for Isabeau to fly out a broken window, Larry crept on through the flaming wreckage trying to locate this girl.

But to Sephi's dismay, he saw the remaining mage casting a True Sight spell. It didn't matter anyways, though, for he could still survive this encounter. Quietly he crept over to the mage, and even though he finished casting the spell right before Sephi struck, he was still mighty surprised when Sephi cracked his skull open with a solid hit from his boot.
But the remaining three were tipped off by the cracking sound and knew where he was for the time being. Sephi kept moving away, quieter than even he thought he could, trying to throw the warriors off. He had the advantage here, and wasn't about to yeild it due to any mistake.
Moving up behind the two warriors who still had their eyesight impared, Sephi placed his hands on the outside of each of their helmets. With a fiendishly clever plan, he clashed them together, making a loud crash and dazing the two warriors, as well as putting a nasty dent in their helmets. Sephi cared not though, and drug them over to the stairs and threw them down. The loud thumping sound of their bodies on the steps resounded all the way up and down, drawing more than one curious glance from the patrons at the inn.
Now it was just Sephi and Captain Dennis.

ooc: ok then, this is my last post for the night, im a bit tired and these choc heads are freaking me out... seriously...

anyways, please dont even try to help me with my battle with Captain Dennis even though im in the same district. i have some very intricate plot lines and battle scenes laid out for this and would much prefer finishing it myself (also it will keep you clued in during my sub quest, whih will likely be done last unless Neb wants to take one...)

(ooc: Neb and Kaz - I'll leave your characters to uncover the plot regarding the mages/businessmen; just a reminder that they do not speak human or elven language. And have fun fighting them )

Soaring into the sky through the broken window, Isabeau circles the burning building thrice. Her beloved mistress is nowhere to be seen. She begins to commute to her telepathically.

Spotting 3 robed figures near the entrance of the building, she swoops down to a distance away from them where she can still attempt to listen to their dialogue...too late does she realise that they speak neither human nor elven language. As she flaps her wings, ready to take off, the chanting behind her ends and a sharp pain tears through her heart...

"It is going well." ~ The tone of satisfaction in the black-robed figure's voice is unmistakable. He turns to his two other comrades, one robed in red and the other, white. ~ "We make a fine alliance, despite our alignments." ~

"This is hardly worthy of our combined efforts, Bethrem." ~ The red-robed mage sniffs ~ "Do not forget, we have spent years training to our current powers. My brother, I dread to hear what our respective teachers would think! Imagine, having 3 level 16 mages just to set off a fire! This is pathetic!" ~

Before Bethrem can speak, the white-robed figure cuts in ~ "I do not approve of this, as you well know, Bethrem and Angthor... I am only here because we are condemned to be brothers, with the same family blood running in us. We kill the innocent for no good reason..." ~

"Shut up since you're here, then!" ~ Bethrem's voice rings out ~ "I swear, you're becoming a real ninny, Sendrin! We've a valid reason this time! These fools needed to be reminded of their limitations..." ~ He raises his voice a little louder ~ "The moment they think they can live without our protection, the moment our livelihood is gone!" ~ His voice drops into a whisper ~ "Now, my dear brother, let me remind you yet again that we're NOT here to make the world a better place and all that crap..." ~

"What's that?" ~ Glancing around idly, Angthor spots the spy ~ "Look to your left, Bethrem..." his voice is hushed ~

Bethrem stiffens and whips around. As his eyes rest on the intruder, he smirks and begins chanting... as the incantations cease, he points a finger of death at the pest ~

"No!..."

Choking in the clouds of smoke rapidly filling the room, she gasps and barely manages to call out Larry's name once. ~ Isabeau...where are you... outside?... Where's Larry?....You don't know?... ~ Realising the futility of getting his attention, she parts the fumes away from her face and staggers out of the building once more.

Not noticing the robed figures, she stands back to assess the situation, all the while registering her familiar's thoughts ~ You have found something...someone...three figures... what about them?...They don't speak human or elven language?...So what?...Who are they?... ~

Suddenly, she winces as a powerful force jolts her mind. Turning to the left where the psionic blast came from, her eyes spot a bundle of feathers some distance away. Her stomach turns and her face turns ashen. For what seems like eternity, she stumbles forward, praying that her fears are imaginary...
"NOOOOOOOO!!!.........ISABEAU!!!!...."

She drops on her knees before her familiar, now lying quite lifeless on the ground. Throwing her arms around the hawk, she lets the tears course down her cheeks unchecked and splash onto its wings ~ What have I done to you, my darling... ~ her body convulses in spasms ~ I've sent you to your death... ~ The agony stabs her in her heart relentlessly and repeatedly.

~ "Come back, Isabeau...I beg you... come back!" ~ Sobbing wildly, she lowers her head further, completely unaware of the penetrating gazes of the mages behind her. ~ "I promise to spend more time with you...just come back to me...please..." ~

Scooping up her beloved hawk into her arms, she raises her eyes to the heavens ~ My Isabeau...faithful to the last ~ Her vision is blinded by tears ~ In health, I neglected you... in death, I shall watch over you... ~ Turning away from the building, she walks blindly on, carrying her burden of guilt.

"That was totally uncalled for!" ~ Sendrin's face darkens ~ "You've grown into nothing more than a bloodthirsty monster, Bethrem!" ~ He clenches his fists tightly, watching the lone maiden trudge drearily on her path.

"As I've said before, you're becoming a milksop, Sendrin..." ~ Bethrem now addresses Angthor ~ "I've a mind to finish off the wench. Will you join me?" ~

"Leave her alone! You've done more than enough already!" ~ Sendrin grits his teeth, shaking with an unexplainable rage.

"If it weren't for the fact you've sworn your life to magehood, I'd swear you were falling in love with her!" ~ Bethrem's caustic voice slices the air ~ "Why..." ~

"Enough already!" ~ Angthor cuts in impatiently ~ "We're a fine spectacle, arguing over a chit of a girl! Anyone who can go to pieces over a bird isn't worth my time at all!... Besides, she doesn't know who killed the bird, or she'd have attacked us... to her own detriment, of course." ~ He pauses before continuing mildly ~ "No...we'll stay to witness the fruition of our task. So hold your tempers, both of you." ~

Bethrem and Sendrin glare at each other, but lapse into a grudging silence; Angthor heaves a sigh of relief before continuing ~ "All the same, you did have a point, Bethrem. We'd better prepare for further intruders who wish to act the hero."

For once, the three brothers nod at one another in unison. Casting stoneskin on themselves (protecting themselves from the next 16 physical attacks), each begins to conjure some helping hands... before long, they have summoned 1 magic sword (+4 weapon, magic/mind-control resistant, as if wielded by level 8 warrior) 1 nishruu (attacks wizards/sorcerors exclusively, draining magic items of their charges), 1 sword spider (poison, tough), 1 skeleton warrior (magic resistant, physically tough) and 1 invisible stalker (physically tough, fast in combat) among themselves.

[ooc: OK, I'll leave it as that; will not be handling their spellcasting or we'll all end up bored The rest of you can have fun beating the lives out of these jokers, but as Larry has said, don't kill them off so easily. 3 level 16 mages are definitely not a piece of cake, so use your imaginations

Oh yes, Deiter, don't forget the loot you got from the battle with Meldrin ...My character will not be joining in the fight...now why doesn't that sound surprising? ]
