"She is... very possesive," Galein tried to explain, his tone patient, "It's really sort of sweet, in a way. You see, she gets upset if I seem to be paying any attention to any one else - she wants me all to herself and has no eyes for anyone else. It gets a little tedious, to be honest. This curse won't kill me, but it's supposed to let me know that she isn't happy."

After a moment, he continued, "Most elven females, are as you say, are like that, but this one is... younger, and more... well, she's not like other elves. " Lowering his voice, he added softly, "I doubt she is barely more then your age in our terms... and styles herself to be very adept at sneaking, spying, and generally skulking in the shadows. She... is ambitious, but has a good heart, but... certain events have jaded her. It is sad really. Perhaps, you begin to understand why I want no part of this union..."

There was something else Galein was holding back, Jena knew this much from his guarded tone...

Jena nodded, but so many questions lingered in her mind that she could not resist asking. “Then…why are you with her? Why not just…” Her voice trailed off as she stopped what she was saying. Realized her own selfishness, Jena lowered her head and frowned. “Forgive me,.. I’m just a little…” A tear lingered in her eye and she quickly brushed it aside. She wondered how these two even met. “Doesn’t she look at anyone else from time to time?”

After a brief pause Jena allowed her eyes to raise and meet his. “Do you love her?”

After a long moment, Galein answered, his tone soft and melodic, reflective, thoughtful, and gentle, "No, she doesn't; she's entirely devoted to me... and to her vengence." Laughing bitterly, he added "She's more intent on revenge then healing - she wants those who slew our kindred lying in the ground beside the bodies of our fallen. She cares little about healing the land and the future - she just wants to remove the ghosts that haunt her past."

After another long, long moment, Galein sighed, and repeated her question back to himself, "Do I love her? Of course... she's my cousin..." Closing his eyes, he asked himself, "Do I love her as a mate and spouse... ..." He left it hanging, obviously, his feelings for her clouded - Jena was sure that the elf was no convinced, and his confusion stemmed mostly from not wanting to hurt the girl - for as much as he loved her, he perhaps did not... not in that way.

Jena nodded, her own thoughts a mass of overwhelming confusion. She seemed to be fidgeting nervously, and she palms grew sweaty. Clearly this was an unnerving topic for her, and a slight flush caressed her delicate ivory face at her next question. “Have you ever…..umm…?” She quickly covered her face with her hands and shook her head from side to side. “Umm…Nevermind…I shouldn’t have asked that. It’s too personal.” As soon as the thought crossed her mind and she questioned Galein she regretted it. Perhaps it would be best if she didn’t know. She was already on edge and a pain inside her chest grew larger by the moment. Jena was beginning to find it difficult to breathe because she was completely choked up. These were no things she was use to discussing.

"Have I ever... kissed her?" Galein asked, and nodded, "Of course I have - as I'd kiss a sister." Sighing softly, he added, "And that's what she is to me - a little sister. It's how... she's always been. I've known her... for a long, long time..." Taking a deep breath, the elf sighed again and continued, "It is not easy to explain, but... she is the last of my living kin; the last of the Blood beside me..."

Turning away, he finished, "In order for the Blood to continue as it has done for a thousand thousand years, (OOC: although, that's not overly long in elven time), I... we... must mate and produce at least one heir. I..." sighing, he closed his eyes, "...I am not ready yet, and yet, I have no choice... my duty... to my line and to my family... demands it. I... cannot be free to choose my spouse. It must be her... unless I choose to break tradition."

Turning back, he gifted Jena with a wry look, and finished, "As to your question, no, I have not. It is... required that both parties are ...maiden... until the night of betrothal. It is the actual act that bonds them together as one soul, although, I do not know if it will be thus in this case. Both most love one another, and whilst there is no doubt in my mind I do love her... it is just... not as a spouse, not yet." Closing his eyes, Galein whispered, "I must sound like a monster for this... I know that she loves me with her whole heart, and yet, I voice doubts..."

Jena gently leans forward and places one hand on Galein's shoulder. "Admitting that you do not love someone does not make you a monster, Galein. Keeping it inside, and telling yourself over and over that you love someone is only fooling yourself. We cannot always choose those we love. It may be cruel and unfair, but there are certain things that cannot be forced or influenced: and matters of the heart are at the top of the list." Jena sighed sadly. "Perhaps I speak of things I know nothing of since I have never loved before...well....before..." Her voice trailed off as she shook her head sadly.

"I know he loves you too. I... am sorry that he is lost... for now, but..." Galein turned away, "There is more to Aeriah then either you nor I know; I know that he was not a freak chance of fate, however; he was destined to be, as much as you or I. Perhaps, there is yet, still a way for you two to be together... I do not know. Only time will tell..."

Sighing, the young human female quickly brushed away the tears and nodded. "I....just have never been this confused in my entire life. My purpose here, in this world, is still unclear. What role do I play in the grand sceme of all things? What sort of sweet or twisted destiny awaits us?" Jena paused, and rubbed her belly as it grumbled loudly. She reached into her pack and took out a slice of cheese. She devoured it instantly, not even giving it's taste a chance to melt in her mouth.
