I don't think there are any +4 arrows,, but I may be wrong. As for the topic, archers are pretty cool. However, I'm more into the paladin mentality. If you attack with a ranged weapon, your obviously showing your lack of physical prowess and honor. BTW in BG2, I do use mages and thieves with bows.

I like that Im having to fight a fighter with my archer, and suddenly this fighter brings in 5 of his friends to help hurt me. Of course stupid my archer won't survive against your 6 party members. jeesh.
Im talking one vs one. And I'll pit a ranger against a thief anyday. You can't backstab me during combat, your chance of hiding while we are fighting are as good as my rangers will be. Of course you can use invisibility items, but my ranger can also. And in melee fighting ill beat you. In archery ill beat you. Maybe if you are a assassin or such you will have a better chance in melee, but a normal thief won't. I can stand with my back to the wall and keep you from backstabbing no matter how many invisiblity potions you have. I'll pit my rangers dual weapons against your thief any day, I'll pit my archers bow ability against any ranged weapon your thief wants to try. Your thief goes through the game fighting NPC characters, not other players. Other players aren't going to sit there and let you backstab them. They are going to be tracking you down just as you are tracking them down. They aren't going to stand in the middle of a cloudkill and die. Rangers are good characters, they aren't just roleplaying ones. |

Welcome, Gustave!
There are +4 arrows in the game....can't remmeber what they were called...arrows of biting? Also, so far as I know, ranged weapon enchantments are cumulative; +3 bow and +1 arrows= +4 enchantment. |

If that was the case with the bow helping the arrow, then that makes sense.
And thank you for the greeting! |

Mind Flayers are probably the best Racial Enemy. Beholders are a good choice, too.
So, do you combine the bow and arrow +'s to determine what you can hit? I know in real D&D that's how it works, but is that how they did it in the game? And Rat, not to be nit-picky, but one word: PUNCUATION. Use it. |

Well, You want to pick a very strong opponent as your ratial enemy. There isn't a need to pick a weak opponent, you can slay hobgoblins and ghouls easy, why pick them? you want that extra to hit bonus against something tough, like vampires, beholders, mind flayers is a great enemy for a Archer, you want to stay away from them and kill them from afar if possible.
Beholders are ok, but other characters have a easier time against beholders. Liches, usually your not trying to take down liches with bows and arrows. Vampires is good, there are alot of them out there. So I'd pick mindflayers or vampires. But thats up to you. MM demons might be ok, but not a lot of demons in BG2 compared to vampires or Mindflayers. And I find mindflayers harder. My Archer was Grandmaster in the longbow, had 3 slots to dual weapons, and rest were on some melee weapons. A shield on a archer, I don't see it. Or you can put some into 2 handed weapons, would be good for a archer. Using longbow and halbards, or spear. |

I picked demonic/fell, planning ahead for ToB, figuring, hey, with level 40 chars, you've GOT to be fighting demons...I mean, what else are they going to throw at you, the tarrasque? And of course I was vindicated when they revealed that two headed nasty....
![]() Racial enemies are kind've a toughie in BG2 because they got a hell of a lot more specific...there aren't that many of ANY of the powerful monsters, and you only really need the plusses on the toughest critters. |
