Yes, I do realize that. Does that make it *right*?! The Handmaidens are clueless, too. At least the Matron Mother had some idea that something wasn't quite right... But instead of looking into it, she trusts you with House Despana's most important secrets?!
(And nobody cite the ToB reference about Ao's dictate. I don't think Ao meant this anyway.)

If anybody had read the drow cronicles by R.A.Salvatore then they would know that Matron Mothers had very strong Mind reading abilities!
I find it hard to believe that she wouldnt bother skimming over their minds to read their intent?

"So... You are telling me, High Priestess, that unless I aid the rebels, your race might be wiped out.."
Faldorn surveyed the City-of-Caverns with a critical eye. Everywhere she looked, the creatures seemed pallid, listless, and devoid of hope.
"And tell me, High Priestess... How often are you raided by the drow and the illithid?"
This was most disturbing. It became obvious to Faldorn that, in the name of Balance, the rebels must return to the city.
The mad king was hilariously gullible... and he never saw the spell coming. He was stricken blind by her fey magic, as were his guards, and then torn to pieces by her spider form. As he started to decay, she reclaimed her human form and ushered the rebels back into the city. She collected her reward, a lovely spear taken from the King's corpse, and left.
Balance would once again reign in this place. Neither the Sahuagin nor the illithid nor the drow would become too powerful, and the three evils would keep each other in check.
Faldorn was pleased.

I leveled up... Faldorn is now level 15 and can shapeshift into a fire elemental at will. She also picked up the Spear of Withering... It should come in quite handy in the future. To the Underdark we go!

This sure does bring me back... Oh, and I finally figured out what the 'bug' was with the Temple of Helm and the City Gates freezing on me. I had tampered with the area files and chitin.key in a foolish manner, and had caused some 'damage'. At least I learned at all, even if it was the hard way.

After the Asylum, events have progressed at an alarming pace. Faldorn leveled up several times... She's level 18 now. The abilities I have chosen are as follows:
Fire Elemental Transformation
Summon Deva
Energy Blades
Earth Elemental Transformation
Dagger Proficiency

I'm LOVING Energy Blades. Energy Blades are my new favorite weapon.

Faldorn sighed. That demon was still knocking at the door. You'd think they would have doors in whatever plane the thing came from, but it was still having problems with opening it, making noise like... well, like a flesh-eating creature from the Abyss. She sank deep into meditation.
When she awoke, it was still there. Good.
She was well aware of the aura of fear it gave off. For some reason, none of her spells could combat this. So she did a little outsourcing.
She opened a gate to Celestia and asked a deva to cast Remove Fear on her. She smiled. "Thanks, now can you just stand there for thirty seconds?"
As the deva soaked up the demon's rage, Faldorn lowered the thing's resistance to magic. She then proceeded to blind it with fey magic. All too easy... She rested and awoke several feet away from it, standing there like an idiot.
And now it was time to infiltrate the drow city. By her oaths, she loved her job.

The demon was easy to the point of stupidity. Summon Deva, Magic Resistance, Nature's Beauty, rest, hack and slash. Kuo-Toans? Not a problem any more. Now we have Energy Blades. I'm still waiting for a dragon battle... This is easy to the point of tedium.
And in the drow tavern fighting pits, why do you fight an umberhulk, a demon, and THEN a Sahuagin prince? Shouldn't the demon come after the Sahuagin? I would imagine they'd go in order of difficulty...

I is amazing how fast you level after 15th as a druid. It seemed like I was 14th level for 90% of the time I spent on my current run through, then before you can say Firkraag French Fries your 20th.

I can see why Llolth didn't intervene, she loves chaos. A Matron Mother dying would be Chaos. This isn't the first time she did something 'good' for evil purposes. (Good being she allowed the non-drow in her temple to cause chaos).

Also, couldn't Adalon's magic have overidden any of the Matron Mother's Powers? She is very old, I think, and most likely far older than the Drow in Ust Natha.

Finally, couldn't Llolth have somehow not registered any characters as good because of the Taint of Bhaal surrounding the Bhaal child? Couldn't that register as evil? (Even if you're good?)

Lloth loves chaos, but not more than she hates surface elves.

The taint of Bhaal is implausible, but Adalon's magic is a possibility, I admit. But I just have a problem with the power of Lloth herself holding a door shut, but she doesn't notice a band of surfacers walking in her temple.

And yes, my levels started dragging around 12, but after 14 they skyrocketed. It's insane. Know what else is insane? Energy Blades. I cannot extol the virtue of Energy Blades enough.

I love that spell myself.

I would introduce another theory, with a little evidence to back it up, but doing so would definitely spoil one major part of the Drizzt novels. (If not two events)

We'll probably have to go with Adalon'sMagic. It seems to register you and a party as Drow.

Because when you open the gates to the surface, under this spell, they open. Apparently they can only be opened by Drow.

Although, if I remember correctly, Phaere said the Temple Doors were now open to the PC, whereas the Surface Gate wasn't and that's why the spell deactivates on that one.

The only other thing I can think of is that the Bhaal Powers Augment Adalon's Spell somehow. Although Llolth's love of chaos may still have something to do with it. If you look at it in the sense that

that if you looted the Jae'Llat (Spelling?) house, you've weakened both of the two powerful houses enough to cause a massive House War between all of the lower houses who want more power...

Spoiler tags unneeded, Jerr. I said in my first post that anything goes.

And registering as drow or not, you still have no loyalty to the Matrons or the Handmaidens. They can read minds. There are drow that have been busted by these powers. Why not your party?
I doubt the taint has anything to do with it... It comes back to either
a) Adalon's magic or
b) "It's just a game! Do you WANT the Handmaidens to catch you?!"
