Note that the puzzle asked for "Which and Why"... unless you give both; I won`t say if you`re right or not...

I expect that if I was wrong you would have been pleased to have told me . I think you are just testing the water to see if I can back up my answer with the proper reasoning . We both know Lennon, that the answer is right, and why. I just thought you would have preferred my deliberately vague answer so as to see if you could catch someone else out .

Ok, time to find something more difficult then... hmm...
Ah yes;

A rotten apple,
Freshly fallen snow,
A library book,
The sky.

What am I ??

The inscriptions may be true or false. Assuming he wants to go to heaven, which door should he take and why ??
LOL - AFAT was one of the first things I looked at too - now for an explanation for Princess :

The inscriptions can be true or false - first step for all Chemical Engineering problems - assume a basis and start solving the problem .

Let's assume that the first inscription is true - if it is true, then one of the inscriptions is false, and by the basis of the assumption it can only be the other one.

If we assume the the first statement is false we don't get any meaningful result. You can't simply imply from the first statement that one or both are true, because you don't know the basis of the falseness - you anly know there is falsity in the statement. Only one of the 4 basic assumptions yields a definative meaningful result - the others are confuddled.

I will have to get back to you on your new puzzle Lennon

This is how I first saw the puzzle but then I confused myself by thinking further on it (thinking it should be more complicated somehow) and ended up confused enough to be afraid to make a guess rather than a choice
Thank you for expanding on the logic and good luck with that fat w
