I think they should legalize pot. In fact i'm pro legalizing pot just not the harder drugs. I see no problem with it if some people want to hit the bong every once in awhile, i say go ahead have a party. I don't really even see pot as a drug. Just my feeling about it. I think it is just about like alcohol all people use alcohol for is to get drunk and have fun sure some people abuse it but hey thats just life, and all people use pot for is to get high. And one question how many alcohol related deaths do you hear about every year compared to the amount of weed related deaths? =

From Milambers website link:

"Smoking pot interferes with one's intellectual performance and impairs thinking, reading comprehension, and verbal and arithmetic problem solving."

The above is why I'd never smoke 'mary-jane'. I saw the effects in others. Being a musician it's part of the culture, but something I've always decided to avoid. I like thinking and feeling motivated.

However I agree with decriminalisation - of all drugs. Get them out from the hands of drug gangs and the underground, and out in the open so the terrible consequences of drug addiction is visable to all, not hidden in arcanely attractive countercultural circles.

Remove the mystery and the 'rebelliousness' and show it for what it is. Dependency on a particular substance to feel o.k. for a little while.

Here's 10 reasons to legalise pot
1. Hemp can be made into paper. Trees take many many years to grow to a size where paper can be made from it. A crop of hemp could be harvested every year, on the same land. this would put a stop to clearcutting the forests.
2. Car fuel can be made from hemp oil that is more mileage efficient than gas. It produces less pollutants also.
3. You can't overdose from smoking pot. A person would have to smoke a barn full of pot a second, for 10 seconds straight to O.D. Believe me this is humanly impossable to do.
4. Since Amsterdam has legalized pot, the usage of hard drugs (coke, crack, heroin ect) has dropped dramatically.
5. Pot has many medicinal benifits(pain relief, decongestant, easing constapation, ect) and has been used a medicine for over 5000 years. It was first perscribed by the Emperor of China in 3000 B.C., the Egyptians used it to ease the pain of childbirth.
6. The Government could regulate it. Which would result in cheaper prices for us pot smokers. The Government would also make a buttload of money if they taxed it like cigs.
7. Jobs, Jobs, Jobs. In this slowing economy, legalizing pot would creats tens of thousand of jobs. Growers, harvesters, packagers, shippers, advertisers, and more would all be needed.
8. We've all heard of or maybe even known somebody killed by a drunk driver. A study was recently done that shows that a person who smokes pot has the same reaction time behind the wheel as people who don't smoke it. So maybe pot should be legal and alcohol not. (by the way one of my best friends was killed by a drunk driver just moments after I spoke with him.)
9. Why is everyone so concerned about pot smokers when pharmacutical companys can pump out hundreds of different drugs, many of which are either highly addictive or they find out years later that the drug can kill when used over long periods.
10. The 10th reason why pot should be legalized? The Bible. Yuppers, The Bible. We're supposidly "one nation under God", right? Thats the line from the pledge of alliegance. Or how about "In God we trust"? What am I trying to get at? In the Bible God said, " I give unto you all the seed bearing plants to use". Guess what, pot is a seed bearing plant. So obviously God wants us to use it.

Keep up the good fight. Potsmokers unite!!! :hippywave:

safyre246, despite your points, it is true that pot damages the speed at which your brain thinks. It takes 30 days for the effect of one joint to wear off. Therefore, more than one joint a month, your brain is going to get slower and slower.

Not one death since 4000BC,,,pretty good record that!!hehe.

It basically comes down to it not being taxed, as I have mentioned before. If they could tax it, they would legalise it, and skoop millions a year off of it.

Why cant I live in Holland?

There are alternatives to weed....

100%pure tobacco smoked through a bong...gives the same effect...the water takes out the nicotine....far far stronger than cigs, gives a similar effect to weed. Very hard to obtain 100% pure tobacco though!

I really think it's a shame people see Holland as some sort
of weed-walhalla.Our government is to blame for this, really sad.

Hope it changes sometimes

Soz dude, I was just rippin'. I wouldn't want to live anywhere apart from my beloved England. There is more than one country where weed is legal, and although it is illegal, it isn't a problem. No one really bothers. Except college and that.

To counterspeak a popular misconception: weed isn't exactly legal in the Netherlands. Not in Amsterdam, nor in any other part of the country. It's merely gedoogd, which means the following: You may own a small quantity for personal consumption, but you may not grow it. Licenced 'coffeeshops' are the only ones who may sell it, again only in small quantities. Now where those coffeeshops get it is a big mystery (allright, we all know where they get it, but the government pretends that they don't), because even they aren't allowed to grow any.
