Update, I picked up the Wii today (Feb 20, 2006) at HMV during lunch, picked up an extra Wii Remote, and 2 classic controllers as well, when my wife gets back she will be happy. They had just unloaded like 8 onto the shelf and I was the 2nd one to pick it up. It seems to be one of those items were you need to be at the right place at the right time. The only reason I checked today was because of a flyer.
I will probably pick up a couple gamecube games when my wife gets back. Those are fairly cheep now. Star Wars Trilogy Lego is on my list which should be fun to play with the wife. [ 02-20-2007, 04:00 PM: Message edited by: pritchke ] |

Just wondering about connecting to the Internet for updates and such. If I buy that Wii device to connect to my computer will I be able to download the games using Wii points, than move it back to my TV and the game is on my Wii system. Do I have to buy a memory card as well? What is the most effective way of connecting to the Internet. I have a cable connection for my internet. When running the wired connection two options come up but thay are locked and require a password? Do those have anything to do with my cable TV. Any any advice on the internet aspect would be helpful before spending money on Wiii points.
By the way Wii sports is awsome, Tennis Golf, and Boxing are my favorites in that order. Yes I got the hang of the boxing controls you don't need much space just keep your arms in close to your body and make short jabs. I suck at bowling, it could be that I forgot to change the setting to my left hand but I think I just plain suck. Didn't play baseball so no commemnt but did try Wii fitness and hit a few home runs so looks like it could be fun. [ 02-21-2007, 11:03 AM: Message edited by: pritchke ] |

I played the Wii at my friends house... he's connected it to he internet. Their implementation is pretty slick, although I didn't see him "buy" anything. The Wii connects via wireless ethernet... so if your not set up with a Wireless hub you'll need to buy one and get it configured for your network, after that it's pretty straightforward to setup the Wii to connect to your network and get online.

I am planning on buying a wireless device.
Linksys Wireless-G USB Network Adapter with RangeBooster is the one I am thinking about as it has Advanced wireless security: Wi-Fi Protected Access™ (WPA), and up to 128-bit encryption. But suggestions would be helpful and I prefer to get advice from people already connected. Plus they are always temporarily out of stock, any connection with the Wii, my guess is yes. Hard to find Wiis hard to find these devices. [ 02-23-2007, 11:38 AM: Message edited by: pritchke ] |

Hi Pritchke,
I have had no problem connecting to a standard wireless G network. It was very easy. Just follow the prompts under the wii system menu for networking and scan for available networks. Occassionally the Wii shopping channel takes a few tries to connect, but downloads were pretty quick and stable once connected Since the Wii has no wired networking connection, I assume a proprietary doo-hickey is needed to connect the Wii to a wired connection. Nintendo's website should have details for any first party peripherals like that. As I recall they had gadget for the DS that allowed a wired connection, maybe that will work for a Wii. You can purchase a wired USB adapter from Nintendo, and they'll ship it to you. Alternatively, there is a USB wireless adapter made for the DS, but will work for the Wii as well. Basically, you plug it into a computer that is hooked up to the internet and it will broadcast the internet signal wirelessly to your Wii.

Actually in my list of wireless accounts I have two but both are locked and require a password. Maybe I could phone my cable company for support before spending $80 on wireless gadget.
Gamecube question, well we bought a couple game cube games and well we can't play them. Since they were cheep and I was looking forward to testing out BW capability. For one we need a gamecube memory card, that I should have relized doh!!. I guess these can be purchased from Nintendo or can be bought were Cubes are sold, hopefully as my computer isn't working, atm? As well do I have to purchase the Game cube controllers. My guess is yes as that is what the controller slots are for. I was hoping to get away with the classic controllers but I think I will need the game cube controllers. Is that correct? In the meantime I can play Twillight Princess as it as been alot of fun so far, and my wife kicks my arse at Tennis and Bowling, While I beat her at Golf and Baseball. My wife(non-gamer) enjoys playing the Wii. Just need to iron out all the extras I need to have a fully functional one. I kind of knew it would be like this, another reason the Wii is such a low price is they can make a ton of money on the extras. Thanks Sir Gollum, the USB wireless adapter made for the DS sounds like it may be an option, of course I need to fix my computer first. [ 02-26-2007, 11:05 AM: Message edited by: pritchke ] |
