The only weapon I know of with a higher kill rate would be the very rare Peacemaker arrows (20% kill), but you'd probably need to use an editor if you wanted a steady supply of them.

Well I've finally started...Went with a 5 person team. Dragon Fighter, kitty Monk, Elf Bishop, Bard and Ranger. Doing well, up to level 5 in upper mon. Thinking of going straight to Trynton to get the Madras (think thats the name) is that a good idea?
Cheers

The road to Arnika is probably difficult enough, and the road from Arnika to Trynton is much longer and can be even tougher. Even if you make it, you won't be able to get Madras until you've killed the Breeders, which will make you hostile to all the Ratkin. They're pretty powerful, so I can't say I'd recommend doing that early. I usually don't bother killing the breeders until I'm ready to kill the Don (level 20) as well. Just handling Trynton alone without magic screen is pretty risky. Since Arnika is on the way to Trynton, you might as well level up a bit over there first.

If youre taking 5 men then picking up madras, it begs the question why didnt you make a gadgeteer as your 6'th man then forget madras
Anyway, not important. You should have no problems with that party, as long as you make sure your bishop can cast high level element/soul/missile shield and magic screen, and have a high enough speed to get element/soul shield up early in the round. If you run into problems, keep trying, or just bypass them and come back later. As i said. You should be fine. You can take a quick detour north from arnika road to the umpani base camp to get a quest item you might need for later. If you go north from the junction after the house, you shouldnt find any enemies on arnika road, and you can run north and a little east in the mountain wilderness and usually get to the UBC without a fight (avoid any creatures you see). Its over the metal bridge. I just do this, since its easier than going to arnika, trynton then all the way back to arnika and then the UBC to get the first Martens Bluff quest done. |

Since you've shared so much with us so far, what are the Bard and Ranger's races? I definitely agree on making sure the Bishop's initiative is good. Both Speed and Senses contribute to that. My default Bishop plan is INT/SPD, then SEN/PIE, which gives pretty good initiative and fairly early Snakespeed for even more initiative. You'll max INT much sooner than SPD, so switch to SPD/SEN after INT maxes and your Bishop will be extremely fast. I'd head straight for Arnika myself after the Monastery, especially if it's been a long while since you've played the game, but the method discussed of sneaking up to the Umpani Base Camp first can save some time in the long run. If you want anyone in your party to focus on Firearms as their ranged weapon, you definitely want to get to the Umpani Base Camp ASAP. But my two cents is that Arnika has more stuff that is useful to a new party.

Ha ha, yes, that's a good point...I think I just wanted to try the class and see what it's like, also I think it's good to have a native in the party so to speak. "Since you've shared so much with us so far, what are the Bard and Ranger's races?" Can't believe I forgot that, went for slightly different races for them, I have a kitty Ranger (wanted extra speed, to try and get an early kill) and the Rawulf for bard, for more stamina so can play those instruments more in early combat. Seems to be going well. I’m in Arnika at the mo, nice to be able to offload all those daggers and things I’ve picked up!! Had a few close battles with a group of pincer modies (or something) dam sege kept casting fear on my team! I’m working on INT and SPD for the bishop and now have missile shield, magic screen, armor plate and elemental blade (I think) can cast them at low levels so that helps. Also did some naughty stealth training so that will help the AC a bit. ![]() Think I’ll finish searching Arnika then run up to Trynton, and avoid the Don for a bit.

You could have saved time - instead of training stealth you can just turn the difficulty to "easy", you get the same effect much easier.

I only did a little training while i had dinner the other day, in the room with the seekers. Got up to around the 50 skill point level, but got board, and I could hear the open road calling my name...

Forget the "easy" setting, unless you are swamped. On the other hand, have never tried the difficult setting because I switched to less players to make it more difficult. Who wants less damage and slower progress for the same amount of work?
Kitty ranger and Rawulf bard are unusual. Glad they are working out for a first party. I'm also using some peculiars: Dwarf lord (was priest for 9 levels) F "Samsung" Faerie samurai (was mage for 6) F "Melenida" Elf ninja M "Widnot" Kitty monk F "Pisspor" This group is working great, but I have been around the block a few times with this game. My "training" is merely to hang around and fight more. Edit: BTW: both the lord and samurai got portal at lev 15 (although they switched classes 3 apart. That is, it may be good to switch to lord from priest at 9 and sam from mage at 6, my 2 cents) [ 08-02-2005, 11:54 PM: Message edited by: Ziggurat ]

I've tried a faerie sam before, and it worked out surprisingly well! They can use the muramasa, so it's definitely worth reloading for it if necessary!
