The scariest movie I have ever seen is In the Mouth of Madness. It made it scary to read books.
The jump-fests that scared the heck out of me are probably Poltergiest, Alien, and The Thing.

The Blair Witch Project. Why has it only been mentioned once? I was sceptical about this film when i first heard of it but after i watched it.. well, who would have thought that a person standing in a corner could be so scary.

I can't think of any more that have not already been posted. The Thing, Alien, The Omen, The Exorcist. All have scared me in one way or another.

I have not seen The Shining (OT Are there two versions of this film? Stanley Kubrik's original and another?) or The Ring but am eager to get my hands on a copy of both.

For me I would have to say Cujo.

I know it is a much older film but any time I watch it and go outside I am always looking over my shoulder for a rabid dog.

A few months ago they showed a serie version of The shinning, but the guy wasn't half as good an actor as Jack is. I just liked the close ups of Jack when he's starting to change and the simplesness of the movie gave it a great tention throughout the whole movie. In the series they just used computers to make stupid gardenbushes in the forms of animals to come to life and things like that, they made it all too obvious.

I have also seen the ring recently and I agree, it is really a good movie. I expected it to be a bluff like Jeepers Creepers, but it was very good.

For those who think its just science fiction think again. This absolutley scared me to death. Don't even think of wathching it if your are paranoid, it will push you over the edge. Time will be very kind to this film, as a warning to society of what is actually starting to happen. it left me angry, depressed and very very scared! The abuses of DNA have already begun.

now this is going to be embarrassing but for those old enough to remember the Waltons....

One episode had the youngest girl moving toys in her bedroom, they were turning evil and attacking her, frightening the bejesus out of 8 year old me. I could not belive that a sickly sweet family programme had such an evil episode. I could not sleep at all for days, and all my toys were put away every night.

Worsel Gummich. very scary. its a childrens film about a living scarecrow who's friend with the local children and gets up to mischief. i saw it as a large strange man who broke into your house and scared the life out of you. it was one of those thing your parents and grandparents said "ooh, you like worsel gummich don't you" not knowing how terrorfying it was to you. i always just nodded politely as i'd represed the memory of it already and didn't have a clue what they where on about. very scary.
