?! This strikes me odd, for three reasons: First, I never heard this before. Second, I've heard reports about non-Monks killing [ ToB Golem Type ] with their bare fists. Third, it sounds very not Infinity-Engine-Like. I can't see how such a thing can be implemented. Are you sure about this?
You mean you've never seen someone being knocked unconscious by a fist? I accidently do it sometimes, after removing a temporary weapon and forgetting to switch to my primary again before I just happen to knock a poor old goblin or kobold unconscious. It works very much like the sleep spells.

Take a seat and enjoy the ride. It's not often you learn something new in the BG Series these days. Recall how people mention certain tactics like punching people unconsicious? They do not want to kill the target because they do not want the reputation loss. Punching people out with fists has been a valid tactic since BG1 came out.

I would like to see these reports. They better not be some custom kit.

Actually, it IS very IE-Like, because it was hardcoded into the game engine since BG1!

Besides... didn't you remember my Sorcerer knocking out Improved Irenicus with his fists? Or the unconsicious Dragon( which is immuned to Emotion, but not fists )?

Question Mark

Fists are indeed non-lethal weapons? Well, tres interessant!

Heh... I've been playing BG2 for almost two years now, and still I manage to learn new things about it. Amazing.

Oh... and as I've mentioned in quite a few occasions, I've yet to play BG1.

I only mentioned BG1 because I wanted to let you know that the feature has been in the engine since it was created.

The tactics however, carried over into BG2. Sometimes when a person upsets a shopkeeper, they punch him out before making their getaway. I recall a gamer who had to regular punch up a shopkeeper in Waukeen's Promenade everytime he went there.

Think Watcher's Keep, 4th level.

And yes, duking people out has long been a favorite roleplaying tactic of mine. When some pompous Nobleman deigns to address me and tell me just how pleased I should be to simply have the opportunity to worship him, I.....get a little antsy. Celebrity Deathmatch time!

/me takes a seat, "My turn to learn something new".

Those Golems are killable by bare fists? Gee... that would make them the only creature( vulnerable to normal weapons) in the game that cannot be punched unconsicious.

Hmmm, so if a level 40 kensai with +13 to his damage rolls, quaffs a potion of storm giant STR to get an additional +12 damage, causes a critical hit to a Goblin with 7HP, the goblin will simply lay there and happily wake up after a few rounds despite having suffered 52-54 damage? That's pretty amusing. Contrast this to mage with 5 STR killing a goblin with a single poke from an unenchanted dagger.

I've always known that fists are non-lethal, but I was under the impression that once wearing the gauntlets of crushing, opponents could indeed be killed by bare fist fighting. I'm at work at the moment so I can't check this out, but it might be worth investigating.

The queer thing is that your kensai would not deal 50-60 damage to the Goblin, but just (Goblin's HP)-1. Remeber the Empathic Manifest (Unseeing Eye quest) ???
