It makes full use of Shader Model 4.0 in hardware, that makes it a DX10 card.

You do not need DX10 to run it, or enjoy it's power.

That's all the benefit we get out of it? Man...I should read in more detail about things I cannot buy until I win at Deal or No Deal.

Freaking heck.

I remember using Dx8 cards to run Dx9 shader games and they ran slow as hell. Eventually, we will need one (a Dx10 card), the same way we need the Dx9 cards to play the newest stuff. It won't happen immediately, but it will happen.

Don't get me wrong, I am an ATI fanboy, but I still think that card is awesome.

I just think people should wait untill DX10 is officialy released before buying cards that "Support" DX10

A valid point.

Plus, that'll give me time to have a computer good enough to house the thing.

By all reports it's got Microsoft's seal of approval... so I expect it will be a great DX10 card. The nice thing is that by the time DX10 goes mainstream, the card will probably actually be affordable.

Mated to a Core Duo box you'll have a great platform for DX10 Gaming.

While hardware SM4.0 support is one of the hallmarks of this card, there is NO reason to wait if you're in the market for an upgrade. 128 streaming processors (read: shader units) running at 575mhz (1800mhz data rate for the GDDR3 memory, of which there is 768MB), 384 bit data width - frame buffer bandwidth is VERY high, 86.4 GB/sec, 681 million transistors, *and* the ability to SLI on PC-express systems makes this a mind-blowing addition to any system.

Oblivion is the only game to make this card drop below 30 fps (21 to be precise) with settings maxed - the Radeon X1950XTX can only manage 14 under the same conditions.
