I'll concede the point... Björk's mélange of weirdness, creativity, talent and commercial success is hard to match so I just tried to out weird her.

Some might argue for Frank Zappa...but not me.

i'm still not understanding why you point out that particular "u" in aluminium. it's there with aluminum as well. perhaps someone can clear this up for me, if not...well ok.
I oughtta smack Wellard upside the head . It is the I in AluminIum that the Americans don't get - not the U.

And for the edifiction of RevRuby - America is the one country in the world that is different. You would think that scientists the world over could look at a chemical element with a certain number of prtons and neutrons and decide to call it Hydrogen or Lithium or Berrylium etc and that name would be standardised the world over in The Periodic Table of Elements. In this case, all the other countries in the world called it Aluminium and the good ole US of A called it Aluminum. You would have thought the Periodic table of elements the world over would be pretty standard, but there you go. I am surpised that the Ruskies didn't go with the trend your blokes set and call Americurium by the name Sovietium or something .

Somewhere out there, you just pissed off a Canadian. Probably more than one. I'd watch your back, if I were you...they WILL come for you.

If I recall correctly it's called Aluminium by most major organizations in North America, scientists and producers alike, and has been since 1990. It's just that aluminium sounds funny, so nobody uses it...

By the way, as I pointed out before, it was called Aluminum BEFORE it was changed to Aluminium, so don't blame the Americans for being different, they were just early adopters.

10 things why australia is the best:

1: hardly any pollution... because Oz is 90% desert

2: we can talk crap about john howard...as can anyone, especially about his shiny head

3: we have the best trained soldiers...well, if you say so

4: no body hates us...3 words on this: immigration detention centres

5: we have rove live, neihgbours and home and away...the very incarnation of entertainment

6: chicks reckon our accents are hot...except, of course, Aussie chicks

7: we look better, nice n' tanned ...melanoma anyone?

8: we invented the air tank for water...that sounds kind of oxymoronic--if you mean a scuba tank, see here: http://www.reefscuba.com/inventors.htm

9: we have a secret nuculear bomb heading towards.. somewhere......the Axis of Evil was feeling a bit light without Iraq, wasn't it?

10: hardly ever murders occur here!...don't know about that, but according to The Economist, in 2003 the number of occurrences of "serious assault recorded by police" was the HIGHEST IN THE WORLD, with 738.6 crimes per 100,000 people. To compare, the US was 11th in the world with 318.6 per 100,000. Of course this statistic depends entirely on the efficiency of the police, so maybe Aussie police are also strictest in the world.

one bad thing about australia

1: our currency is damn too low!...it could be worse, you could live in New Zealand

D'oh!

8: we invented the air tank for water
See above We invented nearly everything. Until we had to give it all to the Americans for help in WW2

9: we have a secret nuculear bomb heading towards.. somewhere...
At this very moment Australia is surrounded by Britain's cunning invisible underwater nuclear arsenal

Well...its ok if you don't live in Birmingham. Or Nottingham

And a bad thing: Our currency is to strong! Devalue my pretty, let those exports flow...

And remember...(Anyone taking this thread seriously will be sent to the currant event forum and forced to read every post in a gun control debate 200 times)
