Brings wife McD's $.25 Ice Cream, Wife goes beat red "I want a Dairy Queen Sundae".

Although I have found that if you can manage to survive the wife 5 or 10 minutes they will likely change there mind to a different craving. Preferably something already in the house. It is dangerous performing these experiments but it is for the good of male society that we learn more of the beast called the pregnant women.

RR, you should know that if what's asked for is a DQ sundae, no McD ice cream cone will suffice

And Pritchke, how much longer does your wife have to go? I'd be considering a new doctor at this point (unless they've got some "pay it all in advance" plan like ours did). At the least, you might request a different doctor in the practice.

I would also draft a note to the doctor, letting her know how you wish she would have communicated the news with more tact. Doctors are not gods, no matter what they think. They have the same personality traits and foibles that the rest of us have, and sometimes, they need to be reminded that they're still human (for the most part). Your response here is a great start for what I'd pass along to her.

In any case, I'm glad to hear that things are moving along

Another 4 months and 1 week I believe. Here babies are covered under the Alberta Heath Care so Doctors, lab fees, ultrasounds, for this are basically already paid for under the premiums all residents pay. They even cover a few free baby class, but the rest you have to pick and choose from and pay yourself. Of the ones you pay for we have decided to take infant CPR (half day), and (10 days, 1 to 2 hour classes over 10 weeks)one that helps you along the last few weeks before birth and a few weeks after.

She only has one or two more appointments with this Doctor and she sees starts seeing the Doctor who will be delivering or one who is more specialized. The main problem is it is hard to find a female doctors. My wife is more comfortable with female doctors.

Just over halfway through, eh? Well, I'd still start looking around for the next doctor. No harm done in starting the search early. My wife is also more comfortable with female doctors (and I'm more comfortable with male doctors).

By chance, is the current doctor fairly young (doctorly speaking)? I'd expect the "I've diagnosed this and I possibly can't be wrong" approach from a more rookie-level person. A more experienced person would tend to go with your line of response. And an idiot... well, there's no telling what they might do

i ask for dq all the time, or i at elast want it, but just about any icecream will do for that particular fix, when you're buying for at least 4 people, McD's does nicely

Wow, this is FABULOUS news! I just got home from a birth. It was a lovely, a a home birth. Anyway, I was thinking about you today and was going to pm you for an update.

I was VERY wary of your doctor from your first post. To jump to such conclusions as "you have low amniotic fluid, you may have to abort" is NOT a sign of a good doctor. I don't care if you're a week from your due date, be sure to switch to a new doctor before you deliver, it's worth it! Also, if you don't have a birthing plan, I would highly suggest you write one, it's your advocate during labor and delivery.

It sounds like your wife and I might be due around the same time. I'm due August 5th and am almost 22 weeks along (just over half way). Is your wife due around that time as well?

BTW, congrats again, I'm glad you stuck it out and sought other opinions. Now, I've only had an hour and a half of sleep so it this post is rambly and makes little sense, just ignore that factor!

Off to bed for me...weeee

I am hoping this will be covered in the first day of the course we are taking which is fast approaching.

It will be pretty close, Aug 10th for my wife.

I'm putting a lot of faith into Salinye's experience at this point. Although my wife gets mad at me for it, I do NOT consider doctors to be all-knowing and all-powerful. In fact, she considers me to sometimes be downright rude when I talk to them (and other professionals). I disagree.

Remember, all you have to do to call yourself a doctor is to pass. Whether you're the class valedictorian or the class clown, you leave with the same degree. Which of the two would you want working on you? At this point, it sounds like you don't have the valedictorian...

Looking at it another way... she misdiagnosed this. What else will she misdiagnose in the next 18 or so weeks? Do you want her to do that on you, or on someone else? I know my answer...

Good luck.
