Bravo Donut. You set a most devious trap indeed. Yoshimo would be proud.

Looking at the timeline of the news reports and your posts, it is obvious that you already knew she had been cleared before posting the topic. So I can only assume your intent was to draw out the "blood smelling sharks" that support the death penalty and then spring the trap after they had stated thier opinions.

Masterfully done.

I do have one question though....the medical evidence clears the mom regarding the death of her second infant....but I saw no mention of any medical evidence that would explain the death of her first child. Has any evidence been found to question the first death also? Or does it even matter, since she was apparantly tried for both murders in the same trial, and it is blatantly obvious that the prosecution withheld material evidence concerning Harry's death. Therefore, there is only one conviction to overturn, I suppose.

I also wonder how a viral infection got so bad that it spread to the baby's cerebral spinal fluid??? That would be a very serious infection indeed.

For what it's worth, I would have supported the death penalty. But as you've proven, I would have been wrong to do so in this case.

Excellent job, Donut. I offer a Barbarian Salute to a worthy opponent.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing about Donut's bait.

But, he didn't catch those of us who *would* support the death penalty *but for* the rate of error. So I guess I made my Greater Evasion roll.

Gosh Timber - does this mean you are admitting that lawyers are the modern-day equivalent of thieves???

Just kidding. But you set yourself up for that and I simply couldn't resist. In all sincerity, I am amazed at how many topics we agree on - given our diametrically opposed theologies - and I always look forward to your comments on the various threads. But that doesn't mean I won't have a little good-natured fun with you when opportunity knocks.
ROFL No, not all lawyers are thieves - JUST ME!!!

Ooops - I've been playing "Calimar" lately in BGII, a reincarnation of a thief character who once became a full-fledged *denizen* of Ravenloft. Must be rubbing off on me. Plus my PnP character is a thief right now. That will be modified next level-up, though, as he's going to go the way of the Mage.

Boy, now I'm for sure.

As would Baldrick. A very cunning plan indeed.

I saw through it, but I also read TL's disclaimer that whaat he posted was ONLY in the case of undoubted guilt. Cerek, the virus gets into the CSF via either a blood-borne route, or, more frequently, directly from the nose through a weak place in the brain's formidable defenses called the cribriform plate. All who want me to explain what that is ... hey, where did everybody go?

Thanks for the explanation, Attalus.

My wife works in an office with 3 pediatricians. Between hearing about some of the cases they've seen, coupled with the numerous viruses, ear infections, and general crud our 3 boys have had - I knew that the infection must have been very severe and attacked (or progressed) in a very odd manner.

If I were the prosecuting attorney, I would have tried to show neglect on the part of the parent for allowing the infection to advance to such a dangerous level. As a parent - however - I realize that there was probably nothing that could be done to prevent the infection. Since the records were eventually obtained from the hospital, that proves the parents took the child to the hospital to TRY and have the infection treated.

I suppose it's one of those rare and tragic circumstance for which there isn't much that can be done.
