I haven't seen anyone "act as though she were swaddled at Cedars of Lebanon" and I seriously doubt that she would approve of the comments made in regard to her being ravaged and raped repeatedly. You can't justify it, Attalus, sorry.

Maybe its because I can see it from a woman's perspective; because I've been victimized myself...certainly not to the extent that any POW has suffered but believe me, its not something you would want others discussing. Some things are kept private for a reason...leave the girl her dignity and just be glad she is alive and safe.

As for the "Cedars of Lebanon" crack, it was hyperbole, but...

The 'resuce' operation was in direct violation of articles 18 and 19 of the Geneva Convention. So far, no newspaper reports have given details of the status of the doctors, nurses and other wounded patients at the hospital facility. It is clear that there was a firefight *inside* the hospital.
We are entitled to be outraged at this treatment of our prisoners of war, and just hushing up debate serves no purpose, IMHO. I am sorry about any abuse you may have suffered, but this debate is about the POW's.

So argue the geneva convention...without exaggerations...whatever happened to Miss Lynch that hasn't been made public does not deserve speculation...there are plenty of officially reported facts to support her being rescued.

On a brighter note, the entire town of Palestine, WV is celebrating the rescue of Jessica Lynch. In a public interview, the principal of her high school announced that they would be presenting Jessica Lynch with a 4-year college scholarship.....so she will not need to earn any more money for school. Once she recovers from this incident, she can begin her life again...this time focusing solely on attending college and fulfilling her dream of returning to Palestine, WV as an elementary school teacher. That's just great! Thanks for the update! I have the TV on in the next room but have so much going on around me that I can't really hear it.

Did you know that a few days before the rescue, the Coalition had inspected another Hospital, and they found out it was being used for military purpose, including having a torture chamber.

I even saw a car battery hooked to a bed.

Also, for those who don't know who this POW is exactly her Name is Jessica Lynch, and she is 19 years old.

Here are two pictures of her. I am showing those pictures because I want to humanize her. Look at her. Think of her, scared, hurt, captured and being tortured in an hospital now turned secret military and torture base, in a foreign country. Can someone really say saving her was wrong? It's common knowledge that Saddam has no respect for his people, not minding using chemical weapons on them, torturing them, using them as shield and even hiring professional rapist to punish them. Look at her. What did she do to deserve this? Who here would just abandon her to suffer and die there? Would letting her die there be right? There is no doubt that she would have been executed too, eventualy, when they would have had no more purpose to keep her alive.

Why would they spare her when they killed all the other? If you had the possibility of savng her, would you help her, or let her suffer and die?

Let me be the first to show bad taste and discuss the certain film that will be made of this episode.

I suggest the title to be 'Saving Private Jessica' with Martin Sheen as President George W Bush, Susan Sarandon as the first lady, Sean Penn as the brave leader of the Navy Seal rescue team and Jane Fonda as Jessica's mother.

Luvian,
Thank you for that most excellent post.

Interviewed by military officials, Jessica Lynch said that she shot several Iraqis before being captured and fired until she was out of bullets.

(you go girl!)

Central Command this morning said that no torture facilities were discovered in the hospital where she was being held.

I saw last night where the governor of West Virginia hand delivered to her family, a full scholarship to obtain her college education.

What a story this young woman will be able to pass on to her grandkids.

It is being reported that she is the first successful POW rescue since WWII.

Amazing.
