I'll join my esteemed colleagues in agreeing with this.

Off topic ... but ... huh? I've never heard anything even close to that. One of us needs to go hunting for a revisionist historian. But given that America imported British tea, and the King raised the tax on tea as part of the Stamp Act, I'm willing to bet it's your hunt. I really didn't think Samual Adams was a smuggler. Brewer - yes, rebel - yes, but smuggler?
In the interests of keeping this thread on topic, I'll PM you the answer

Isn't there anything that would affect the most powerful and best defended man on the planet *at all*? Isn't there anything that could even keep his mind off of Iraq or the War on Terrorism for even a single minute? The only thing that almost stopped him in his tracks was a single pretzel. Hmm..."
Well, I've got to agree with Grojlach and the others this time around. While the "choking incident" was serious...it was also an incredible fluke. And I think Grojlach really summed up the intentions of the "anti-war" contingent very well with the paragraph I quoted. To those opposed to the war, I'm sure it has seemed like President Bush is invincible and invulnerable to all attacks. Nothing has affected him - except for one pretzel.

It's like Superman and kryptonite. He can physically shift planets out of their orbit, but one small pebble of kryptonite makes him as weak as the proverbial kitten.

Another excellent point is that this is a symbolic protest directed squarely at George W. Bush and his policy....NOT the entire American population! In that respect, it is far more effective than the ridiculous name-change to Freedom Fries (a move I will resist participating in unless the fries suddenly become red, white, and blue in color).

The protestors are simply saying they wish there was SOMETHING - ANYTHING that could stop George Bush and his dogged determination to wage war on Saddam Hussein....and so far the ONLY thing that has even slowed him down has been a pretzel!

I see the humor in the protest....I also see the underlying reasoning behind it - and I personally don't find either to be offensive.

I think it would have been more tactful to send some wine to wash it down with

lol.. I feel like shaking my head at both 'protests' and saying "Boys, BOYS! Stop fighting.." like little brothers being nasty because they CAN! lol!

Funny.. Personally, 'freedom fries' is a joke. very petty. same for this one.

Not at all, I think they just want him to choke a bit and look silly! I love it when politicians look stupid. I laughed when Thatcher fainted, I laughed every time Ford fell over, I laughed when a Japanese Prime Minister acted as a vomit receptacle. I love schadenfreude!

You spent most of the mid 70's holding your side then.

My favorite funny embarrassing moments in Presidental History are...

Bush vomiting on a Japanese official during a formal dinner in the late 80's thanks to the stomach flu, and when Presidental Candidate and former US Senator Bob Dole fell off the stage and into the crowd at a public event in the late 90's. I thought Dole was going to crowd surf as part of his new "hip and cool" image.
