Question Mark

True enough. Robert Anton Wilson and Robert Shea called it "The Law of Five" in the Illuminatus Trilogy: if you look for something long enough and with enough ingenuity, you will find it.

This is the latest news story, but it doesn't contain any really dramatic updates at this time.

Jeb won't do anything like what some have been suggesting vis-a-vis sending in National Guard troops to "rescue" Terri, because his brother George called him and told him not to. (No, he didn't really call, but I suspect he probably did).

To those who now claim that Terri has been speaking I ask, "where is the video with her speaking?" If such video exists, then broadcast it to bolster your case.

See, this is the thing... I hate the media frenzy; it's robbed the woman of her dignity. I think she should be allowed to die in peace. But weeks of starvation? I'm sorry, but why can't they give her some morphine? If you gotta go...

I have seen it suggested somewhere (and I apologise for the lack of a link)that the intense media coverage has meant that the medical professionals involved in this case have had to be extremely conservative in the administration of analgesia.

Some of you may be familiar with the "double effect" doctrine where it's acknowledged that giving sufficient doseages of pain relief/sedative medication to ease potential suffering has the secondary result of shortening the actual time to death.

It's an entirely humane process, and takes place without comment on a regular basis. However, in the Schiavo case, I've heard it mentioned that if the doseages of medication are not kept at the lower range and the "double effect" is minimised, there is the possibility that the medical porfessionals and the hospital will be subject of lawsuits post mortem.

Perhaps TL might like to comment???

As i said in another thread, the Bland case in England had similar facts. Was the reomval of a feding tube murder. In the end they said that the act of removing the tube did not kill him, the lack of food did. It was not murder by omission as the failing to feed did not break a duty to the patient, as due to him being in pvs no consent was given which is needed for a duty to exist. Therefore the treatment was being given in the 'best interests of the patient' which the doctors now deemed to be the discontinuation of treatment THerefore the hospital was not guilty. It is still the persuasive precedent on the matter. It was not binding as the HOuse of Lords was acting in its civil capacity.

Thankyou Illumina for picking up on the part of this whole sorry affair I find the most gross. STARVING her to (final) death. I mean come on guys even some death row prisons give out drugs to finish the job. Does her body have to endure this sort of end?

Yeah, I mentioned that in the other thread - I think it was Cerek who explained that she would be sedated enough to not be in any pain. But yeah, I agree in principle, its no way to die IMO.

It is though perhaps the only way she can be left to die legally.
