Every time they recounted, Al Gore 'acquired' more votes. And they halted the recounting. WHY?!
Something did not compute in my mind, and it seemed to me that some of the judges were not exactly impartial. And I'm not just saying that because a few were appointed by Daddy Bush... Give me a few days.. I need to look for my information.
Interesting, I couldn't help but notice the words "AL Gore picked up enough votes to pass George W. Bush" are missing from your post. SO I'LL REPEAT no major creditable news orginization that went down to Florida and did their own independant count of vote came to the conclusion that Al Gore won. Period end of story.
That's what irritates me... You'd think somebody would have. Feh.
Ah well.. Like you said, what's done is done.

Can some people please answer me why you think Bush is going to win when his approval ratings have really dropped??

The large states didn't want their many people being dominated by a much smaller amount of people in the small states.

The result was a system where 2 legislative branch houses were created to balance each other -- one in which each state had equal representation, and one where states were represented based on population. This compromise was absolutely essential in getting the states to form a union and is therefore a central concern in our system of government.

This type of compromise later carried over into other aspects of the system, including the electoral college. We cannot do away with the electoral college. The states simply will not allow it. Opine on it all you want, but in the end you've got to accept the things you cannot change.
But the electoral college doesn't do anything to protect the rights of the small states vs. the large states, nor does it prevent primacy of population to be the governing factor in the quantity of votes. Isn't each state given X amount of electoral votes, based on the number of people (registered voters?) it has in the state?

Illumina,

Bartcop is good place to search for news articles pertaining to vote counts.

http://www.bartcop.com/cgi-swish/bartcop.cgi

I put in Gore Vote Count and got back 30 pages of results. It started me back at 2000 so you might want to start high and back into it if you're interesting in searching.

Bartcop is an extremely anti-Bush site so be warned. If you are easily offended, don't go there. Don't click on da link...

I really wish Dean would throw his support behind Edwards and try to knock Kerry off his pedestal.

Yep. I'm still trying to figure out what Kerry's appeal is.

Were there a Libertarian candidate, and I could vote, I would... It seems to me, the Libertarians are the only ones who are like-minded (perfectly so) and are the only ones who agree with my beliefs about the constitution.

The Libertarians are the last party I would vote for. Any government that wants complete capitalism isn't a good party. I don't understand why some of guys support both them and the Democrats.

Loftis, do mind explaining why you think the Democrats are going to loose but win in 2008?

Bush has been a popular war-time president overall. And, having suffered through those woeful years of rampant economic success and scandalous behavior under Clinton, Republics have now crawled out of the woodwork to yell loudly and affirmatively that they're going to put the world back the way it oughta be. And Bush is their man to do it. His biggest failure -- spending -- will be forgiven in light of the war. I simply think he'll get re-elected unless he does something truly stupid (meaning above and beyond his normal level).

The Republicans took time in the 90's to establish and fund "think tanks" that would outline the party's position on issues and package those issues in a way that "sold" the public. They are a very unified and together party.

Dems on the other hand, are viewed -- and rightly so -- as scattered ninnies with a lot to whine about and no real vision of how to fix things that may be wrong. Until they get their big union guys to fork over several million bucks to fund "think tanks" like the Repugs have, the Repugs have a competitive advantage in unity that cannot be beaten easily.

So, down with Dems in '04, most likley.

However, in '08, we'll have 4 more years to regret Bush's spending, we'll have over $10 trillion in debt, and our nation's economic credibility will be turning south. Additionally, I'm sure our unilateral actions taken without working to negotiate with other nations will have turned more foreigners and Americans against the Repugs.

Additionally, they need a candidate. Cheney ain't gonna do it. He's not trusted, has "conflict of interest" issues, and is about 2 pork chops away from a coronary. He debated Lieberman well at my alma mater in 2000, but I don't think he can win a presidency. Who would Repugs put up? Don't know, but there are several obvious Democrats for '04 and no obvious Republicans at this point.

But, '08 is certainly hard to predict. I'm thinking Hillary may try it, but then again I think she'll be smart enough to let some other woman FAIL at running for president before she tries it. Besides, she'll look like a better candidate after she has spent more time gaining seniority in Moynihan's old chair.

::looks over poll results:: Erm, there's a minor discrepency here.
According to the first question, there are six college-age people who have responded. Ok, fine.
The next question indicates that there are only three college-age people.

And apparently there are three people who are too young to register, but only two who are too young to vote.

What gives?
