Eliza

Relenting a little, she softens her tone somewhat wistfully ~ "You don't know what I've been through." ~ Lowers the dagger to her side ~ Should I tell him if he asks? Why do I mistrust him even now? ~ Studying his troubled countenance carefully.

Vane

Glancing at her, he shakes his head ~ I'll never be able to figure her out... ~ Eyes filled with disappointment and a touch of sorrow, he sighs heavily ~ "I suppose now I'll have to beg you to tell me the truth." ~ Sensing the frustration gnawing at his heart ~ "Why can't you just be honest, Eliza? Is it so very hard?!" ~ Clenching his fist, he grunts, smashing it into a nearby tree trunk.

Eliza

Almost choking, she staggers forward, grasping his bruised hand with her free one ~ "What did you do that for?!" ~ Heart twisting as she notes the torn edges of the outer skin ~ This is so difficult... I hate love! ~ The realisation dawns on her, and her cheeks flush ~ I can't love. ~ Her face paling ~ It softens me, renders me helpless. ~ Yet her eyes remain glued to the wound. A single tear rolls down her cheek and drops onto it.

Vane

Gritting his teeth at the splash of saltwater, he raises his good hand to stroke her beautiful hair ~ "No more games, Eliza." ~ His voice quiet, piercing her with its deadly intensity ~ "I'll not be a plaything you can hurl aside when you have your tantrums." ~ The hand travels down her back in a soothing caress ~ "I thought I loved you enough to put up with this for the rest of my life, but..." ~ Pauses for a maximal impact ~ "... I can't. Not anymore." ~ If she cast me aside now, so be it. ~ Inhaling deeply, he adds ~ "Eighteen years, Eliza. Enough is enough." ~ Saying, he coughs casually, distancing himself a little from the call of this siren.

Eliza

"So..." ~ Taut with unspeakable fury, she struggles to find her voice ~ "...finally, it is out. You're tired of me." ~ Aware of some ticking within her, as if a trap will be sprung in seconds ~ "Why toy with my feelings, then?" ~ She turns away, blinking furiously, sniffing just once ~ "We shall part, then. Farewell." ~ Without turning back, she commences on a sprint ahead, running blindly on.

Vane

He watches her take off, torn by indecision. Cursing under his breath, he whips around and runs in the opposite direction ~ She won't get too far by herself... ~ Eyes flashing ~ Damn her wilfulness! And damn mine, too! ~ Making a mad dash now, he heads for his destination...

BLANDAMORE(He hurriedly rushes to her side. Dismounting, he cradles her in one arm, his sword still out) "Galadria! Are you all right? Was the spell too much for you?"

GALADRIA (Tries to sit up) "Nay, fair sir. 'Twas but a passing weakness." (She flushes at the unaccustomed feel of a man's arm around her. Especially his. She sneaks a peek at his craggily handsome face, the grey-blue eyes darting back and forth from her to searching about for enemies. Enemies! There had to be at least one left. She struggles to her feet, looking about carefully, grasping her sword tightly.)

GALADRIA (She continues on high alert, looking for the last thief) "Dalben, do you have a spell for dispelling illusions? For, my hackles do continue their rise. I feel we have yet another enemy to deal with ere the sun set."

"Well, sir...I suppose we will be getting on the road tomorrow, if the weather is fair. I do not wish to trouble you anymore, and we really must be going along our way."

"I understand, young man. And I must say...it has been very good for this old man to finally have some company. The two of you have done a great job for me, and I hope to see you again, someday."

"I would like that, too. So...do you have any last minute details to point out to us? We plan on leaving early in the morning, but Isaura will have breakfast waiting on you when you awake. Is there much trouble between here and the nearest city?"

"Naw...it'll be rather boring and eventless from here on. You've both passed through the roughest part, and now you are on that last mile stretch. Now,,,you had better mosey on up to bed! You need your sleep to arise early in the morning."

"Yes sir!"

Raymond had finished talking to the old man as Isuara had left the kitchen, her chores complete. They each went to thier separate rooms and fell fast asleep.

The old man of the farm awoke while the stars were still bright in the sky. He had heard his horse in the stables, and was afraid that there might be horse thieves in the area. Scooping up his lantern and a long sword,(from his adventuring days...long story...), he crept out towards the barn to see and maybe scare of the intruder, or at least put his weary mind to rest that all was well. It was dark inside the barn, and he pushed the door open, feling uneasy at the silence. He didn't even hear the horse's breath or movements at all. Aiming his sword forward, he crept along, listening and watching. He came to his horse's stall and looked inside. His horse lay there, dead and bleeding. Then he heard a rustle in the straw behind him.

================================================== ================

The next morning, as the sky was still dark enough to see an occasional star, The two adventurers awoke and met downstairs. Isaura quickly put together some biscuits and gravy while Raymond was tending to some bacon. He loved bacon. He had to snitch a piece, behind Isaura's back. When all was ready...they departed out of the small farm house and made their way to the road. They would be walking for only two more days before they found a town again...and they both were glad to know that. Eagerness was in their footfalls, and merry was their singing as they trailed along, leaving behind a newfound friend and a wonderful place of treasured memories.

When it had become midday, they stopped along a creek bed to relax under the shade of a Willow tree and let the cool water tickle their toes.

"Isaura? Have you ever dreamed? I mean...a dream that feels like more?"

Isaura

She reaches out to tuck a strand of his hair behind his ear, the light in her eyes flickering ~ "I... I don't think so." ~ Letting her hand travel down his cheek to his chest gently, she whispers ~ "Are you alright, Raymond?" ~ Her lips moving rapidly ~ "If you're not, tell me and we'll find the best doctors for you... we'll make sure you recover completely... we'll get this sorted out."

"Well, my dream was just strange...that's all. I feel great...like I have been renewed. Let me tell you my dream".

In the dream, I was a little rabbit. I had always been one, and I lived in the woods. It was the daytime, and I hated the daytime. That is when the fox would chase me. I would run all day and always try to hide, but the fox would smell me out and make me run again. This went on for as long as I could remember. The fox wanted to kill me. But, one winter's day, the sun was setting earlier than usual, and I was glad because whenever the sun went down...the fox had to go home. Since the sunset was earlier than usual, I was not as tired as I usually was, so decided to explore the world during this darkened time. I crept out and visited many of the animals that dwelt in the night, and they were glad to see me. They said that they had been waiting for me to come to them, because they wanted to share a secret with me. Then, a snake whispered in my ear that if I would rest that night, and let him watch over me, that in the morning I could arise and go find the fox. But I was afraid of the fox, and I did not want to see him, but the snake told me to relax and try to sleep. So...I did. When I awoke in the morning...the night animals were gone, but I could smell that the fox was near. I ran all that day, but since the winter nights came earlier...I knew that I was at an advantage. When the sun did set, the fox stopped chasing me and was walking home. But I was not ready to stop. Instead, I felt angry with the fox for trying to hurt me, and began to chase him. The fox was so scared at my sight, he ran as fast as he could away, but I caught him and killed him. Then, I knew that I could rest. Then, there was a hunter with a sword and a horse, and he wanted to kill me too. But since I was no longer afraid, I attacked the man and killed him. Then, I realized that I was no longer a rabbit, but something more. The snake had bit me in my sleep and the poison had made me strong instead of bringing death.

"Isn't that the craziest dream for a person to have???"

GALADRIA
(She continues to scan the shadows. Dalben casts a "Purge Invisibility" spell. It seems to her that she catches a faint movement in a bush over by a huge tree.) "Ho, everyone! To me! I spy our foe!" (Blandamour comes up beside her as she sprints to the bush, where she sees a definite form. She casts "Miscast Magic" at it.)

Her cheeks quiver as she tries desperately to suppress a wayward giggle, but... this is ridiculous. ~ Struggling to maintain a concerned expression ~ I'm going to laugh... I can't help it... ~ She doubles over, turning the peals of laughter into a whooping cough.

"(Cough)...sorry... (gasp)... (cough, cough)... Raymond... (gasp)..." ~ Wiping the tears off her eyes, she finally settles down again, fixing her glistening eyes on him ~ "Th... that's quite a dream. Practically took my breath away." ~ Hurriedly continuing ~ "Well, what do you make of it?" Her hands playing with the ribbons of her robe.
