Improved pathfinding - when a character goes the wrong way round bhodi's dungeon and runs into a bunch of marauding vampires. I also hate spell disruption on my wizard (the robe of vecna sorts that out though...he he)bonus items, dierdre))

Msinly just what others have been saying (especially about those ugly paper dolls) but also, they could imporve the AI in some places to make it more realistic, but also, has anyone else noticed how spells follow you around?? I mean, they're directly targeted at you, but if you move they bend round damn corners, and that's not the worst thing, at least spells you can forgive, because you could say they magically home in, but how the hell can perfectly normal arrows follow you round and round?

im surprised that theres not a single reply mentioning the XP cap...i think that you should be able to rise to VERY high levels if you wanted to (more than puny level 20 or whatever) to like 50-60 which IS possible if you solo and replay several times (export char and restart with it)...also the fact that its very hard to become a "super mage" (like irenicus in the sequence where he kills the Cowled Wuzzez err wizards)...i know it would need to be a change in the D&D rules for that but what the hell...like a decrease in spell casting time every 5 levels or something? i dunno...im probably just rambling now but take it as i mean and not as it sounds (=

The XP Cap is entirely optional ... you can fix it with any number of downloads, or with ToB

Tulle, buy ToB and thieves will go to level 40, wizards reach level 31. Irenicus is level 28, and Elminster level 29, so you beat them both with this cap (though they have some special spells/abilities of course).
And the developers didn't meant people to export/import characters. They allow you to, but they didn't meant it to be so. So it isn't strange they sat the cap where they did.

I was quite disappointed on the Liches, most of them are to weak for my taste.

just to address the way in which you can't resurrect yourself, you have to reload. well, this is done because your character always needs to be their for dialogues and stuff because it's the main character.

the main problem with the game is definetly NPCs. if your evil then all the NPCs in the starting dungeon are good, and all but one of the NPCs in the copper coronet at your first visit. also, there's a a distinct lack of choice with the NPCs, especially if you want a balanced party. it's nigh-on impossible to vary your party significantly on second or third plays, especially when keeping it tactically viable. it's even worse if your evil. ok so you get edwin, viconia and korgan who are all excellent NPCs, but other than those three there's very little choice without getting good characters.

the other choice is to create 3 or 4 characters yourself but i don't like this because they don't have the character of NPCS.

Imoen does not disentegrate when she die for two reasons:

1) In Baldur's Gate Imoen was not a child of Bhaal yet. They decided that for Baldur's Gate II

2)Having Imoen disentegrate at death would give everything away, and if she die then the story wont work. (What if she get desintegrated before she get her soul stolen?).

Imoen can't be killed before that - she's wearing that magical belt which has two effects - a permanent immunity to instant death spells and a minimum HP of 1 (at which point she runs away, to meet you at the exit of irenicus' dungeon)

I know why but I'm pretty sure there are ways around it. I really dislike that a multi-class character or some other classes must settle for only 2 weapon slots. It's tedious having to change weapons ever so often. I say make it so that all characters can have 4 weapon slots.

Each to their own: I personally wish the quests and critters gave parties a lot less experience, with a much slower rise in experience, as in BG1. It's the only thing I prefer about the older game. I feel like BG2 is more than a bit of an experience chaser, so that by the time you tack on ToB with its much higher cap, the game devolves into nothing more than "my firepower is greater than your firepower."

I think I forgot to mention before my dislike for the way pickpocketing is handled. The potions of master thievery make it absurdly simple, and if you don't use those, then which one of us truly swears they never reload if they're caught shoplifting? The penalties are simply too severe. I'd rather see a small fine that grows over time with each time you're caught, along with raised prices and a slighter drop in reputation. Just my POV.
