I would go about getting the SotM first actually. That thing is a Godsend to any character that can use it.
That's why i wrote:

Every battle is waaaaay easier with the Stick of Cheese.

Even if the boots protect you from their backstabs, the damage they deal is high, and your thief's HP are low...

They cannot see invisible units.
But they patrol the whole area invisible, so they have the element of surprise.

They can also send your Mislead decoy to the pits of the abyss with a single blow, and you can find yourself butt-naked infront of a whole group of gurdians.

I won't say soloing a Thief is easy, at least in certain situations, like the Tanner Murder Quest. That one was hairy, what with the Bone Golems and all; but they are one of the masters of cheese.
Pfft! Give me Mages, Sorcerers and Druids anyday.

Element of surprise, yeah right.

"Alarm! Alarm! Intruder Alert!"

They might as well be wearing bells and waving light sticks for all the stealthiness they have.

Mages, Sorcerers and Druids cannot defeat bosses in the blink of the eye. Imagine Melissan's surprise as she lost without her even managing to cast a Time Stop.

As before, they are not easy to solo with, but they have some of the most extreme cheese tactics to compensate for their "weak" attacks.

You'll be surprised...

It is actually quite shocking, hearing it from YOU.

Maybe because I am wondering how one can defeat Melissan within less than a second? Using either a pureclassed Mage, Sorcerer or Druid?

Mages and Sorcerers - PRATI tactics springs to mind... Havn't tried it on her, but it might be possible.
And if we're talking Trap-Cheese, here, don't forget that Mages and Druid have Traps, too. Maybe not as powerful, but their Traps are unlimited using various tactics.

Only-seven-traps-a-map? Don't make me laugh... Summoning is not the only limit bended and broken by the power of Clones...

Druids - Pretty simple. Cheesy as hell, but simple.
Abusing the Potion-Swapping cheese, Druids can combine x3 Nature's Beauty in a Chain Contingency.
It will probably won't kill her, she's probably immune to insta-kill, but she is by no means immune to unsavable Blindness, which equals a certain death.
The Druid will not loose a single HP in this battle.

Even Melly is not immune to the power of Nature's Cheesiness.

You will be pleased to know that Thieves need not abide by the 7-Only rule. Melissan is immuned to Magic Damage and Fire Damage as far as I know, so... Skull Traps and Delayed Blast Fireball will not work on her.

Not to mention her Magic Resistance.

The Thief needs only 4 Spike Traps, and the scenerio will be something like this,

Melissan warps in...

"Ow! Ow! Ow! Ow! Now you will die! Damn you! Must... absorb more power!"

Melissan warps out...

Observe your Thief standing there sipping tea doing nothing.

I will need to experiment with Nature's Beauty before I pass comment on this, but Melissan is still alive in this tactic, so it is not a sure-win scenerio.

She wears Imoen's Belt by the way, so the worse that could happen is that she gets blinded.

Oh, and pureclassed Thieves can have unlimited traps without resting, if they have the proper statistics.

Or cast a Simulacrum from various equipment. Not that he/she needs more than seven anyway. Just four and voila! Minimal effort, maximum cheese.

And how do Thieves have endless traps?
Does the infamous Yoshimo Dualclass exploit sound familiar? The one where you can carpet layer the entire Golem Room floor in De'Arnise Keep with traps( before the ToB cap of seven).

Melissan is Immune to Magic Damage?
I must have been hallucinating, thinking my ADHWs were so effective in this battle...
One the other hand, i did fought her long time ago - so i might be mistaken.
About Magic Resistance... Place 1000 Skull Traps in her spawning spot.
Even if her Magic Resistance is 90%, 100 Skull Traps WILL hit her, which sums up to what? 100D20 Magical Damage?
So much effort, for so little results. As I said before, a Thief can finish the fight, way, way, way, wayyyy faster than a Mage/Sorcerer/Druid; and I mean all the fights including the pools of power( Trap Bombing). In light of this, you have to admit that the Spike Trap is more cheesy.

It is a sure-win scenario.
If she's Blinded, she can't do nothing. Nada.
She's at your Druid's mercy - you can even use the Sling of Everard to kill her with little stones. How humiliating for her.
Imoen's Belt does not confer immunity to Blindness, BTW. Just checked.
? For such a powerful spell, they should at least fix the radius of the area-of-effect( and make it a hostile spell). I find it hard to swallow that a level 7 spell can be more powerful than level 8 or 9 ones.

DSlaytern] AIIEEEE! I accidentally clicked on edit instead of quote. My apologies, Alson.
