Although I've never done it before, I suppose I could just Import Cerek into a Multi-player game and then face my challengers directly. That way, we wouldn't have to wait for Dundee to script out the "Single Minded Mage".

Its just that, you can't justify a third-party gauntlet which grants 50%MR (and if that MR is stackable, its even more ridiculous) AND immunity to 6th level and lower spells, just to be able to defeat a high lvl wizard.

Carsomyr grants 50%MR, agreed, but not immunity to spells <6 and you'll have to defeat a tough cookie to get it in the first place. And those gauntlets are *just* there? No way!

Well, as you've seen by now, I was wrong about the full abilities of the gauntlets. They DO "Spell Turn" all spells 6th level and below, but they do NOT grant any Magic Resistance whatsoever. I looked over my party last night and found out that Jaheira has almost as good an MR (30% from Cloak of Balderun and Amulet) as Cerek does from his Kit Abilities (45%). And Keldorn has an even higher MR with Corsamyr.

I agree that the gauntlets are very powerful and they should be worn by an extremely tough opponent in the game. The Guarded Compound or Twisted Rune would have been the perfect place for them. But they really aren't any more powerful than some of the items available from The Adventurer's Mart or the Bonus Merchants. If I could just buy Valhailor's Helm, then it isn't too much of a stretch to get the gauntlets in a similar fashion. Still, it would be more satisfying to take them off the corpse of an opponent.

AFA Arundor's Abode is concerned, there were many items there that were much, much more powerful. I do believe in "stacking the odds" in my favor, but I do not believe in destroying game balance. And - given the severe limitations on items a Wizard Slayer can use to begin with - the gauntlets don't seem overly powerful compared to similar items for other classes (like the Cloak of Mirroring). Of course, that's just my opinion and it may differ from others.

Hold on a sec, did you say that Keldorn was wielding the Holy Avenger? I thought only your own character could wield it if he was a paladin. I guessed that if your PC isn't a paladin you wouldn't find the Avenger on Firkraag.

No, it's there whether the main character is a paladin or not.

IMO thats a total NO-GO cloak, even with ToB installed, it's ridiculously overpowered. Standing between two beholders and an elder orb that can't do squat to you, thats just not right.

It DID make the Beholder Dungeon in the Underdark ridiculously easy. I started out trying to tackle the Orbs one at a time with Nalia and Imoen using "double-barrelled" magical attacks...but the beasts just kept shrugging off their best efforts.

Finally, I just sent Minsc and Cerek to the front. Minsc has the Cloak of Mirroring and Cerek has the Shield of Balderun. They cleared the entire dungeon in about 10 minutes. They literally just steamrolled right over the top of ALL the Beholders.

I agree the item is overpowered, but when you're facing up to 10 of these things one after the other, it makes a little more sense.

I wouldn't know what to do if I were a fighter down there, but for a sorcerer, it's still a walk in the park -> read summons.

the mages in the game suck, excluding a few. i really want to start a PnP game. ive heard good things about those. to think ive never actually tried it.
