I never played BG1, so don't take my word for it, but... The way i see it, you have two options - either you start BG1 as a fighter with 18 STR, use the Tome to get 19 STR and import to BG2, or you just start BG2 as a Half-Orc. In both cases, you enter BG2 with maximum 19 STR. Is Half-Orc a legitimate Race in BG1? |

Same goes for other classes. Why should a sorceror be condemned to start with lower stats than a mage imported from BG1? But thats a whole other topic.

Man, oh man, never thought I'd be causing this kind of havok--I thought I'd phrased it perfectly clearly in my very first post on this thread:
Quote:
Re-importing your PC into BG1 over & over again does not require Gatekeeper (or CLUA), and is therefore not cheating. Does that mean re-importing is more respectable than Gatekeeper? Not in my book, baby. But this is an "eye-of-the-beholder" thing, and to each his own....but I'll say that it's an honest way to earn 25 STR, if not a perfectly legitimate one. Jim, I'm pretty sure Half-Orcs do get a CHA penalty. I may have accidentally swapped the penalties for CHA & INT, but that's of no importance. And even if I got them right, I still didn't give myself any equivalent of Barbarian Rage. About the Equalizer, though: Even with my less-than-sterling Reputation, I had enough $ to have Cromwell make everything, so I did, including the Equalizer. Even so, it's never been anywhere except in storage. Roleplaying-wise, the only time you'll even *consider* the Equalizer are when you know in advance that you're going to be fighting someone who's either Lawful Good or Chaotic Evil. Apart from the High Hall of the Radiant Heart, there aren't many obvious examples of this, and even so, all the other weapons available to you will easily be just as good, and a lot more versatile. The analogy of the AK-47 versus the sniper rifle does not really apply: The sniper rifle is much better than the AK when used for its intended purpose, while the Equalizer only applies a relatively tiny advantage.
