At the top right of the box there are 2 arrows that make it larger/smaller. Is that kinda what you're looking for?
EDIT: WHOA!! Is there any limit to how long that box will go? It looks like it gets about 5 lines longer with each click. I gave up after 80 clicks...

I get the same results as FSA. I'm using FF... perhaps it behaves differently in different browsers...

Does the same thing here, blocks out the box entirely on IE.

I was talking about an option to enlarge or shrink the white reply field as needed, and possibly a checkbox to "keep this as my default quick-reply box size". It could fit in nicely beside the "quote" and "signature" checkboxes. Just a suggestion.

I run FF 3.0.8 and it works great for me. Just tried it in IE with the same (good!) result. I'm talking about the arrows in the upper right corner of the gray border around the white reply box.

When I tried IE there was an arrow on the dark brown header line -- same line as the words "Quick Reply" and that blocked out the whole reply box. I don't even SEE that arrow in FF.

I see no double arrows in the text box. I see the up down scroll bar arrows, but not what your describing.

Here is what I see:

The 2 arrows in the top right make the window longer, or shorter.
