Great...

If they start a nuke war and the west doesn´t do anything to stop it, they will blame the west regardless. So many countries down there will be struck by the radioactivity, and more death will struck already poor countries. What do poor countries do when all hope is lost?

alright geniuses who remembers the gobi sands that completely crossed the seas all the way over to the americas? set off enough nuclear firepower and enough of that radiation can and more likely will reach the US. not to mention gilam said that one nuke isnt bad sure maybe one nuke isnt bad but both sides dont have just one nuke. and lets not forget good ole saddam and his scuds. they just launched them they didnt care where they landed just as long as they hit something. if enough of them nukes do go off it could cause the world in a sense to self distruct. cause enough techtonic plate activity and shifting because of it could cause massive tidal waves and or old or recent volcanos to erupt wildly.not to mention clouds can carry the radioactivity of the bomb across the world. thats why they say the bomb affects everyone.and as far as the opposing sides go india would wipe out pakistan because of its immense army. now the isreal and palestine conflict is IMHO just plain friggin stupid. over holy land, israel has a state no larger than the state of vermont and palestinians want it back. because of religious landmarks and so forth. havent the 2 lived together for thousands of years? didnt germany once rule and or dominate most of europe way back when?it got broken up over time, it happens. i say let the people decide if they want to be palistinian ruled or israeli ruled. i think palistinians are upset at the fact that israelis take better care of their land. i liked the fact that saudis were gonna cut off our oil supply if we didnt get israel outta palistine. saw how long that lasted. them mid easterners really are stupid when it comes to politics. dont demand or threatin the CAPITALIST country of the world we will cut you off from everything else besides oil you hold dear. and if paki and indy get into a fight we would more than likely suport paki cause we hold more interests with them.

The thing that annoys me the most about all of this is that we are still selling them arms by the truck load. To both sides...

And then Tony Blair goes over to talk peace with them for a while. So smoooooth, what a slimy little man he is. Maybe, what with war imminent and all, it might be a good move to peace if we stopped arming them. Sure, we might lose a bit of cash... oh... I see why that will never happen... Er, when would this be? Germany is united pretty late considering European timescale

Germany was a land of many small countries and kingdoms. Aska German and he can explain it better to you. You might be thinking of the germanic tribes that lived in the northern parts of Europe.

Also, other examples would be the Romans, Napoleon, Sweden among others. Eorope has a history of large wars due to both olitics, landwinnings and religion.

I can understand why this subject is so funny. Think about it, only 12 million people will die in the first instance. And it's not as if they are our people, they are only Paki's and Indians. The fallout would probably travel to the Middle East, China and other parts of South East Asia. But that's okay, all of these countries need some population control. Only about 7 million people would be injured. Of course the American, BriTish and other coalition forces in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Central Asia would have to be moved pretty sharply.

Agriculture in the region will be ruined for many years causing millions more to die of starvation.

American intelligence reports that a limited nuclear war would have cataclysmic effects overwhelming hospitals throughout Asia and the Middle East requiring vast amounts of aid.

Of course there is nothing we can possibly do militarily, no-one has suggested that. It's also very difficult to do anything politically. India regards the Kashmir problem to be an internal one (and they heve an excellent point).

But don't make the mistake of thinking that this doesn't concern us. It concerns us economically, it concerns us politically and it concerns me because of the large Asian communities in Britain. They will be at each other's throats if war breaks out.

Please don't trivialise nuclear war - it's not funny and it's not Christian.

Well, you know? That's the way it goes, I guess. You try to set up a serious discussion and look what you get. I don't really find anything about this subject the least bit funny.

But, maybe I'm just too serious for my own good.

Oh, well.

Let's not forget that the conflict is over the Kashmir Province and that China (another nuclear power) also controls a small part of said province - AND that India and China are old enemies. A nuclear conflict can spread.

OK - so the chinese controlled part only consists of mountains and glaciers - but still.

And India - or more likely -Pakistan might use nuclear weapons if pressed back far enough. So the threat isn't purely hypothetical - although not likely at the present.

To me a more likely senario will be India keeping up the peasure until the Pakistani economy collapses - just like USA did to USSR towards the end of the cold war. Pakistan have allready used up their entire defence-budget for 2002. They just can't afford to keep up a massive deployment of troops in the long run.

Well said Donut, and Mark, if you're too serious than so am I, and I'm just a fool
It's not just the spot that these types of weapons hit that are demolished but the fallout from todays nukes is so much bigger than the ones dropped over Japan in the second world war. Once this stuff gets in the atmosphere the whole world is affected.

To me, India and Pakistan seem to be acting like little boys with big toys - not a good combination.

We can only hope that if they DO go to war then it will be a conventional one. I dont believe for a minute that if one uses nukes the other one wont because the first will have lost face in the International Community and said community will propose sanctions... blah blah blah.

If one launches a nuke they will exchange missile attacks until they dont have any left. Thats going to effect the ecology in a huge way. They sure as hell didnt care about an internaional treaty banning nuclear missile tests. They dont care what happens to the rest of the world as lond as they get to vaporise eachother.

Yeah and throw in China and every other country in the region. This is some serious stuff here.
