Geez, I saw some reports of it on TV and it looked pretty bad, glad you didn't get caught up in it mate. There are a few Florida members here, hope it wasn't too bad for them either...

We lucked out BIGTIME guys.. And Power wise too. A load of folks are still without power around us.
We rode around in the car with the camcorder, IN OUR AREA and my god, the streets and yards are COVERED in leaves, limbs and debris, and all around our area are 100 year old trees pulled out of the ground, roots and all! I counted atleast 26 in just 2 neighborhoods in our area. 2 huge Oaks fell across some roads and were already cut off the road. I hear that if this storm was just 10 miles west, we would have been without a home probably. 5 miles away in Bartow, the HUGE water tower was blown over!! That is like 15 TONS! Crazy. I'll get the video up tonight. I gotta edit it up and convert it to streaming video. Be dodged a very large bullet. I hope everyone else if okay. All Florida members PLEASE report in here so I know you are okay too!! |

Wow I'm glad to here you lucked out! My university professors in Florida are still without power so I can't attend any classes online today! I'm suprised that it gained that much speed between here and there! When it crossed over here the wind was barley even blowing...

Wow, that was a lot more exciting than I expected. My 80-yr old aunt & my cousin had to evacuate their trailer near Tampa so I had some company. Turned out they had less bad weather at their trailer park than we had here. Maybe next time I'll evac to their place... nah. For some reason I can't really explain, I never felt like I was in danger, even watching news reports that it was coming straight at me. At one point after the news confirmed it was coming toward Lakeland, Laurie (cousin) asked if we should just get in the car and drive northwest to get out of it. It took me completely by surprise -- leaving just never occurred to me. Luckily not much damage here, just a few panels of screen around the patio ripped, and the power never went out. Not bad considering the eye passed about 20 miles east of me.
I just heard on the news that Winter Haven, east of me, has 50,000 people without power. BTDT, that's no fun. So far, I haven't heard much about injuries/deaths. I hope we keep it that way...
