I'm more "riled up" about your spelling prowess.
Fact is, cups of ice don't kill people, IDIOTS kill people.

I'm thinking, just maybe LM could use a cup of ice right now?

Perhaps. Or a sedative.
Maybe a lobotomy, so I can think like everyone else.

No need to think like everyone else. But neither is there a need to so heated about a point one disagrees on.
Just thought I'd add, I have issues with dealing with opposing opinions myself. Sometimes I'm nice enough to walk away cool off and agree to disagree. Othertimes, I'm not so lucky. [ 05-27-2007, 11:07 PM: Message edited by: Firestormalpha ]

Lord Michael: Defining humanity with intelligence has it's own problems. If stupid people are not really people, is it OK to kill or subjugate them? As an example, If you have a huge continent full of people who are too stupid to even have discovered gunpowder and masonry, is it ethically right to abduct them and cart them over the sea to work as slaves at a cotton plantation? As another example, very small children are not intelligent, and if deprived of education, will stay that way. Should we farm lesser people for purposes of, say, warfare or labor? I think no. Humans are still humans.
Just trying to deliberately deviate this thread farther and farther away from the original topic.

Point Taken, Iron Greasel. I was not attempting thread drift. I merely wanted to convey that, IMHO, it is not the insignificant things (like cups of ice for sale at liquor stores), but the mind of the human that is at fault here. Firstly, it probably is a dumb thing to do, selling cups of ice at a liquor store. It does possibly (to a knucklehead) imply that, "hey, I better make good use of this ice....time for a drink!" That response however, is reactionary (cup of ice + liquor = time for a drink). The customer has a decision to make... hence the human mind comes into play. Anyone who automatically makes a drink in the car, fires up the engine, and drives; lacks a degree of quality decision-making skills and common sense. However, the store selling the ice bears absolutely NO culpability for selling ice (IMO). That same knucklehead could EASILY purchase his/her bottle, drive next door or around the corner to a convenient store, and purchase a cup of ice. Or they could just bring a cup of ice from home. My point is, you can't stop idiocy. (Unless you round 'em up and dig a deeeep hole).
Secondly, a reaction of "Oh My God I can't BELIEVE they can do that!", or "They CAN"T do THAT!" is equally reactionary and idiotic. Attempting to save an idiot from making a bad decision (or attempting to create the illusion that you may be saving someone's child so you can feel better about yourself), is delusionary and incompetent. It is a downward-spiraling perpetuation of maternal/paternal insecurity, that will inevitably lead to, "Holy Shite!, Gasoline is flammable (they might burn little Johnny), "doors have sharp corners!" (little Johnny might bump his head!", and eventually, "Trees can fall during strorms!", (We're all gonna DIE!!!). Pointless. The key is, teach your children well. Teach them right from wrong, and DISCIPLINE the buggers when they do wrong, because they definitely will. An intelligent human has the sense to know, law or no law, that driving while you are not acutely aware of your surroundings and able to react quickly, is just stupid and can kill you or someone else. They also have the sense to know that it is not the gasoline itself that burns you, (You can pour it all over you if you want...oh no...CANCER!), it is the idiot who applies flame and throws it at you. It's the DECISION that makes the difference... Just my .02 cents. ![]()
