Wii will kick PS3's butt.

It probably will, market wise. But I think PS3 is being marketed to mature gamers with lots of surplus cash to spend. Just look at the requirement for HDTV - how many kids are going to get away with asking daddy for that?

The Wii is a more traditional "fun" toy.

I was in Walmart looking for bird food and checked the electronics... they didn't have any Wii's in stock but had a couple PS3's.

I picked one up to use as a Hidef DVD player... not a bad deal since most players cost twice as much.

It's funny that folks were shooting each other and camping in line for weeks for them... and I got one at wally world 3 days later without having to even thumb wrestle anyone.

And the fact that people are spending $2000 on these things when they could have just chilled for a bit and saved their money too!

Hey...I hear that the PS3 comes in two types. 20G and 60G. The 60G is the one that was selling like crazy...I assume there was not as much desire for the lesser of the two. Which one, if you do not mind me asking, is the one you got?

20g... that could by why they had them. Since I'm not interested in the online features I'm sure the disk size difference is irrelevant for me. We'll probably play a few of the games that are console friendly (platform, maybe some of the japan style rpg, sports) but I don't play PC games online that I need to pay subscription rates for... so I'm certainly not going to do it for console games.

Regarding the vaunted consoles... is it me, or was it possibly the stupidest idea in the history of mankind to unleash a "OMFGNEXTGEN!" of consoles just months before DirectX 10?

hehe...that's another reason why the new NVidia card is better than the PS3.
Its the first one to incorporate the DX10.

Yep... and the timing guarantees that there'll only be a handful of true dx10 games until the damn PS4 comes out in 5 years.
Well, the card is designed to be compatible with DX10, it was not designed for DX10, or so the representative in the Gamespot interview stated.
I think the word "compatible" is understating it, in my opinion. I did not say that it was "designed" for, I said it makes use of the DX10, and I said that because of NVidia's website, which in itself may be a misleading sales fluff but it was all I had to go on at the time of my posting.

Quote:
...With a revolutionary unified architecture and full support for Microsoft® DirectX® 10 games, GeForce 8 series GPUs deliver unprecedented performance, extraordinarily detailed environments, and film quality game effects...
For me, "full support" is more than "compatible".
