And yet somehow such sentiments fail to impress...

I'd be far more shocked if you didn't say beer.

Someone mentioned children, for my wife and I they come first. Way out in first. Then I would say they fall in this order for me:

Wife (girlfriend/boyfriend to stick with the original question)
Friends (of which I only have 2. That’s real friends, not acquaintances)
Family (That would mean my mother, who is dead; my father who lives thousands of miles away, my sister whom I don’t really care for and cousins, uncles, grandparents and so on)

Seriously Tom, your pissed me off there.

Really badly.

I'd say family, above all else, including you. I live with my girlfriend, and love her with all my heart, but I'd always choose family.

Friends are nice to have, but I'd still rather have my girlfriend and my family.

Our Dad lives in Thailand, so we still talk, but I miss him, I'm close to my Mum, but I'm obviously not that close to my brother.

You've proper pissed me off there Tom, seriously. When you read this, txt me. Just cos we don't live together/see each other much anymore, no need to say that.

Edit - The only reason I was coming home next weekend, was to see you play in battle of the bands...

I think this is a very naieve statement.

Most countries in the world, are experiancing rising divorce rates. And they will keep on rising.

I imagine in your mothers day, couples stayed together through thick and thin, but nowadays it's not the case. Wives leave. Regularly.

Friends can always betray you, as can wives and girlfriends. The only people you can always trust, is your family. They'll always love you. Thats the way I'd see it.

So, thats my reason for saying family.

This is of course from a personal point of view but I do not agree with the above statement. I have been betrayed and used by members of my family my whole life. I do not feel as if I can trust members of my family even half as much as I trust my wife.

Yes, it is my personal belief and experiance.

I know my mother, father and brother would never betray me, and I them. Yes, sometimes we fall out, but I'd die for anyone of them.

Cousins & aunts etc I don't count as family. The only people I'm close to are my Grandma & Grandad....

I wasn't saying it's true across the board.
