It's not so much about money, as about value for money. I don't want to spend heaps for no reason, particularly if I'm not going to be working for two years. I'm financing this whole MBA out of my savings, which is why the BU offer is appealing.
You might want to glance at this article TOP 10 CITIES WHERE PAYCHECKS GO FAR which lists Boston as one of the 10 *least* affordable cities. Good luck whatever you choose!

A big city always halves the value of your money. If you look hard though, you can make a decent living still, I bet.

Worse than Manila?

Hey congrats Mem! So far, I have heard only good things about Boston. From here and other friends... I would want to live there myself. The only thing I do not like there are their sports teams...

Lucky for you, you've got education, and other things rolled up into one location. jackpot.

With respect to sports, I'm going to have to find some social cricket or rugby team to play with on the weekends, eh. Something I'm good at that they're not good at.

Mate, this is where people stay a foot away from your rear bumper while driving at 150kmh. And where they decide to make right turns from the leftmost lane in intersections. Where they decide to do U turns in busy streets in peak hour traffic.

At least it's not as bad as Manila, where two lanes quickly becomes four, or even six!

Thanks mate, looks interesting.

Another question: assuming classes start 1st week of September, when should I move? How long does it take to find housing, etc.? If moved around early August is that too early/late? I'll be finding my own place, won't need to find a roomie or anything.

You mean go first to canvass, then come back to Sydney and then go again to move? If I had a spare $3500 for a return economy ticket, yes. It's a bit bloody far for me to go mate, 24 hours airport to airport, including changeover in LA. I used to do it every year to visit my sister in New York, it's a hell connection, almost as bad as Sydney-London.

I only want to go once, but I'm not sure how the rental market is. Can I get a place in 2-3 weeks? I'm renting, not buying btw.

BTW I've found from my trip to the US that the changeovers are a bit shorter if you go Sydney to San Fran. If you can get a connection to Boston from there.
