Ah, thanks Hive! I hate Snoop-Dog

Speaking of which, have y'all seen the Generic Rap Song? You really should read the paper itself too, just to see how literally every inch of that video has been thought out. Oh, and watch it with the lyrics too

Ahem, no there is no legistic way to change your name..

As in, the only way to change your name in england is to become known as.
A deed poll is just a declariation that you are no longer going to be known by your former name..

I have been doing my reasearch..

It would have been less hassle just to say Yes.

From that link, particularly point 3:

Quote:
A Deed Poll for a change of name contains three declarations and by executing the Deed Poll (signing, dating and having witnessed) you are committing yourself to:

1. Abandoning the use of your former name;
2. Using your new name only at all times;
3. Requiring all persons to address you by your new name.

Thus, a Deed Poll provides documentary evidence that you have changed your name and that you are legally binding yourself to using your new name. Although a Deed Poll is an English legal document, it is recognised by all UK government departments and UK companies and organisations - subject to the Deed Poll being prepared by a competent authority such as ourselves or a solicitor.
What is that if not legally changing your name? You require others to use your new name, including the government - this is not simply a declaration that you won't be known by your former name, but a legal requirement that everybody use your new name too. You can even change your birth certificates I think.

If that isn't what you want, then what exactly is it that you're wanting?

it is too hard to explain fully.

Yes a deed poll can be used to get a change of name legaly reconised.

But you don't need one to change your name..

Do you understand what I mean now, there is no legal procidure you need to do to change your name..

I could put an annoucment in the local rag stating that I would no longer be known as and should hearby be refered to as..

You see, a deed poll is a way of saying "I am now [name] and long longer use [old name]" in the most simple terms.. It is basicaly a contract with yourself...

After that point you are legaly under the new name and calling yourself anything else is wrong, but people can still call you whatever they want, but on documents you must call yourself and let others know yourself to be under the new name.

So, there is no legal route you have to take to change your name, in other words there is no legal way to change your name, but the intent has to be to be known by the new name and not be attempting to defraud another person or orginisation by the new name.

No realy, I did do my research.
