Not to mention that RWD hooks up much better than FWD - that's worth 50hp right there in a straight out drag race.
Hmm, wrong thread, wrong time?
What 400+ V8 are you referencing? The 350 from the GTO?
http://gto.roadandtrack.com/inside_gto.asp

Surely not to be confused with the 550HP VW R-32?

The GTO may be potent, but let's run it down the A9 from the Alps, upto the North Sea, and see how it fares?

The 350 from the 2005 GTO is an 400bhp LS2.

The R32 you quote is non-stock.

I see your modified R32, and raise a calloway-modifed 1100bhp 350-V8.

I believe the 2005 GTO has an LS6 (6 liter, 360 cu in or so). 400hp/400lb ft... STOCK.

lol... compare a tuner Golf to a stock GTO eh?

Do you have any idea how much power the LS6 can make in the hands of a competent tuner? (1000hp isn't a stretch, 550hp can be done on a budget... less than $5k)

Hmm, did you fail to read the purchase request from the website?

Or, simply chose to ignore it?

A 1000hp streetable, buyable, with full warranty car? Really? Do you have a link? Please by all means enlighten us and post it.

An HPA R32 is equal to a Callaway Corvette, or a Saleen Mustang, or even a Rousch Mustang for that. Not equal as in price, power etc, thou it is more potent than some, I'm talking equal as in production! You too can buy one, just place your order, call your bank, and await delivery. No need to find a tuner, or attempt to modify it yourself, all the while nullifying the warranty.

Power and production, The Koenigsegg CCR, which holds the offical record for top speed in a production car doesn't even measure up to, and falls almost 200Bhp short of your SWAG of 1000Bhp.

Sorry DA, but some kidz need a little more skooling than others.
You asked about some cars, but it appears you only want a limited amount of stuff. The GTO will give you more wallet abuse than the rest. It will cost more at the gas pump, at the bank, the insurance place, and will attract more attention with the Police. With all that said, I saw one on the way to work, I honestly thought it was a honda 2+2 from the rear, then maybe a Sunfire once he was in my rear-view. Then was behind me, from the red light to the gate, a distance of only 4 miles or so. Imagine that a 400Bhp car was behind a '2 wheel drive pick-em up truck with 350lbs of cement in the back' on his way to work. Anyhow, Ish Kabob was not impressed at all!
My cousin had a 69 goat, 'Judge' label actually, paid cash for it when he returned from Nam, and too me, that is the only GTO worthy of those three letters.

Get a comforatable car that makes you want to drive it, then drive it like you stole it! Then drive it some more. Then look for something that gets less gas mileage, cost more money at both the bank and insurance desk, and see which one you like best.

My VW has a VR6 in it, if you keep her under a hunert, she will turn 30+ MPG. But, she doesn't start to breath until about 135 or so, then she only pulls 14. At top speed, "classified" she pulls 7.8Mpg. She costs me $300 a month more for 72months @ the bank, $20 more weekly of Super Plus, and is thrice the insurance as my pick-em up truck, which is three model years newer. So; HP and bank, gas station, and insurance really are joined at the wallet.

It's a TUNER car, not a Production car... you think a Tuner offered warranty makes that any different?

http://www.hpamotorsports.com/company.htm

there's their website... do you see any manufacturer affiliations there? Any "Fully warrantied by VW" notices on their R32 page? How about even the ability of ordering through dealers? Maybe it's in an obscure link... point it out for me please.

Indeed, ignorance is bliss, and some have it in spades.

Ok... class is open on the LS6 for the ignorant masses in need of 'skoolin' (lol!):

Lingenfelter sells the Vette in the following configurations (the LS6 is used in both the vette and the GTO):

Stage 1 : 550hp/550lb-ft
Stage 2 : 650hp/600lb-ft
Stage 3 : 725hp/650lb-ft

All with a WARRANTY (lol... that must mean their official eh?)

Modern Day Musclecars LLC sells GTO's and Vette's tweaked to as much as 1,300hp.

For the skoolin challenged, 1300 is MORE THAN 550.

My boy do you need to buy a clue or WHAT.

The STOCK 230hp R32 gets 26mpg highway
The STOCK 400hp GTO gets 29mpg highway

for the 'skoolin' challenged... 29 is BETTER GAS MILEAGE than 26, and 400hp is LOTS BETTER than 230.

Now, I don't know what gas mileage the HPA Motorsports version gets, but if you think a Tuner modified R32 is going to IMPROVE gas mileage I've got this bridge for sale... cheap.

And I'd like the see the math you know that says a $50k Tuner Golf is cheaper than a $30k GTO. The STOCK R32 is less expensive than the GTO, but it's also pretty darn slow in comparison (over 6 seconds to 60... that barely qualifies as a grocery getter these days)... so I expect by your breathless exclamation of awesome R32 performance and speed you MUST be referring to the tuner version.

SO... the fast R32 is lots more expensive, gets worse gas mileage, and is a tuner car that could be spanked by GTO with probably $10k less invested.

Class dismissed.
