Most of the MAJOR networks focus on (and perhaps even exaggerate) the "bad news" from Iraq and most assuredly NEVER show any "good news".
I didn't even address that part Cerek, because it was an intentional attack at America and not me. Skunk obviously knows I don't just get my news from that source -- I'M HERE AREN'T I? -- so given that I know he's smart, I must conclude he simply overlooked that fact to present more spin.

Skunk, there sure were hundred of pages of reports prepared for something that wasn't "investigated" for nine months. Facts, man, facts. Oh, and you've got some creative system of counting going on there, since the earliest dates of reports filed by anyone I've seen go only back to 12/03. And, I think US servicemen were reporting it before the Red Cross or Red Crescent (whichever it is).

"So we tell you that the dignity of the Muslim men and women in Abu Ghraib and others is not redeemed except by blood and souls. You will not receive anything from us but coffins after coffins ... slaughtered in this way."

~Excerpt from statement read by Muslim butcher

I'm am sure glad they don't have any Ohio-class intercontinental ballistic missile attack sumbarines at their disposal. Image what the animals would do with them.

They find yours. they find them, and they kill them, then they find the people who supported them , then they kill everyone who was glad you did it.

But a group of people who were not happy they did it now hate us because of what we did.

So:

We kill them. We find them, and we kill them. Then we kill the people who supported them, and then we kill everyone who was happy that they did it.

And so on, and so on ad nauseum.

You'll need to stop thinking like an American to find a solution Timber. I read in my paper today that some Americans believe that the answer is to let the military take the gloves off to finish the job. "If what it takes is to resume major combat then so be it".

As much as I hate having to say this I think it's time for Britain to extricate itself from this whole sorry quagmire. We have no control over the actions of the US forces, our soldiers are being put at risk because of them. Now 3,000 further British troops are being sent to straighten out Najaf, but under the command of the US. Our army is becoming nothing more than a bunch of mercenaries fighting for another country.

Crimsom, this is the second imbecilic thing I've seen you say this week. What's wrong with you mate? You may have meant this as a joke, but that exact statement is what stereotypes the US as a bunch of misunderstanding, gun-toting yahoos to the rest of the world. I know that isn't the case but your comments don't do anything to further global friendship and understanding. In addition, they make you look stupid. Stay out of this discussion if this is all the rubbish you're going to contribute, you're very close to a suspension.

Moving on. This thread is starting to develop feelings of "self-righteousness" and "taking the moral high ground" and that's usually a sign that the thread is starting to go downhill. It's a volatile topic, but in fairness to Americans who probably feel like they are being picked on here, and to Skunk's post about balance, this abuse issue, while abhorrent and unacceptable, is not exclusively a US problem - the United Kingdom can't exactly take the moral high ground about this as they knew about this problem as well, in addition to abuses committed by British soldiers, and didn't do anything about it. Scope may be different, but at the end of the day either you abused prisoners or you didn't. For all I know Ozzie soldiers may have done it too - I know that the OZ government was apparently advised of these abuses a couple of months ago as well. Let's be fair here - our nations are all tarred with the same brush, no point pretending otherwise. Also, I'm intimate with all the Flame Warriors, fellas - and a lot of them are represented on this thread.

One final point - we're all talking opinions here. This thread is not a case of Skunk winning, or Timber winning, or Crimsom wanting to nuke the world to eliminate a problem. Everyone has their own opinion. Example: what do you guys see below?

Some people see one thing, some people see another. Doesn't mean one is right over the other. Chill out, fellas, and don't take yourselves too seriously.

Johnny, that was the worst thing I've ever seen. I'm not squeamish, but that was horrible. I really hope they catch these people.

No Timber, they knew about it for NINE MONTHS but DID NOT BEGIN TO 'INVESTIGATE' until the abuses were leaked to the press.

Nine months is a long time to sit on a crime in progress and DO NOTHING about it.
Not true. investigation was started officially on 01/19/2004 about alleged (and later proved true) abuses from 1st nov 2003. This thing leaked to the press no later than end April / beginning of may.
Furthermore, Gen Taguba actually had started assembling his team BEFORE 01/19, meaning the actual idea of an investigation was already in the air.

2 1/2 months might be a long time for me and you, but is actually lightning speed for an official inquiry...

Just in case you were interested, here's the complete report of that investigation http://www.strategypage.com/articles...asp#references

Sobering footage. VERY sobering footage.
Yet these individual conflicts are miniscule when viewed in the larger theme of the perpetual human killing cycle. Taming and de-fanging needs to take place, not just of these people, but of the whole human race.
But how to go about it? That's the question....

I like that thought. It makes me a little warmer in this cold cruel world, y'know. Every time a newspaper reporter found a crowd of "Bimbala bimbala"-yelling, chanting terrorist supporters, we should send in some troops/snipers/gunships who shoot everyone cheering and burning an American flag. Keep shooting until people clue in and shut up or they're all dead. Don't worry, we'll talk about giving them back their right to speak AFTER we've gotten all the terrorist supporters.

Maybe not the most artful solution, but it has a certain simple beauty to it.
Did you ever think of doing it a more cvilized way and arrest them?
